According to the Peninsula Daily News.com, a Lake Forest Park man, Ted Grindle, 74, had a narrow escape on January 30, when the fishing boat that he and two friends were in was caught on rocks in the middle of the Sol Duc River at Forks and began to submerge.

Grindle and Michael Westfall, 34, of Everett, tried to dislodge the boat but were unsuccessful. A Fishing guide, Ryan Thomas, of Forks, rigged a rope from his boat to theirs and held it in place while the three men waded across the hip-deep, swift-moving river.

The boat is almost completely submerged and attempts to retrieve it have been unsuccessful to date.
