Weather highlights for the past week
Snow showers on Wednesday the 29th, mostly in the morning. No accumulations however the resulting cold air blast has stuck with us through the end of the week, keeping all ice and frost frozen in all shaded locations. Ronald Bog is frozen over as are many other local ponds.

Weather for the coming week
It is looking relatively quiet for the next week, we are expecting rain to return later this week, not snow. Long rang forecasters are pointing to a possible surge of arctic air possibly between the second week of January and the end of the month. I’ll be watching the forecasts and weather service watches and warnings closely throughout this month.

Monthly data
Overall we had a very wet month. The total rainfall for the month was 12.06 inches of rain. Compare this to December 2009, when we had 3.08 inches of rain. Here’s the monthly rain graph by day.

Temperature-wise we started off the month at fairly normal temperatures, but this last week turned really cold, especially overnight, with lows being in the low 20’s. We had one night at 19.9ºF for a low, and our highs were so low that it has brought the average temperature down for the last week dramatically. Our normal weekly average in December was about 42ºF, compared to the last week being only 36.6ºF. If I average for just the last 3 days of the month it was 29.9ºF. Here’s the monthly temperature graph.

December 2010’s average overall temperature was 41.1ºF, compared to December 2009’s average overall temperature of 35.5ºF. I decided to graph this one as well. I’m considering adding December 2008 to it as well for comparison, as we all remember the heavy snow and cold weather we had that year. Here’s the average overall graph for December 2010 compared to 2009:

I hope everyone had a Happy New Year! Drive carefully out there, we are still in the 20’s at night.
