SW girls take 3-6 Wesco 3A record into Saturday game with SC

The Shorewood girls’ basketball team takes a 3-6 Wesco 3A record (4-11 overall) into its Saturday game with Shorecrest after a Tuesday victory at Oak Harbor.
The Thunderbird girls play host to the Scots (7-2 Wesco 3A, 8-7 overall) at 5:30 p.m. as part of the daylong Shorecrest-Shorewood hoop fest involving girls’ and boys’ freshman, junior varsity and varsity teams from the two schools.
       
Shorewood lost to Shorecrest, 71-60, Dec. 17 at Shorecrest.
       
In the 62-51 victory over Oak Harbor Tuesday, the T-birds took a one-point lead after the first quarter, before stretching the lead to six points at halftime and 11 after three quarters, and holding the 11-point lead in the final period. Masha Shtikel led Shorewood with 22 points, Lisa Echert scored 13 and Kimberly Lindgren added 12.
       
The victory gave Shorewood sole possession of sixth place in the Wesco 3A division. The top six Wesco 3A teams qualify for the Northwest District 3A tournament. Shorecrest holds second place in the division and has clinched a tournament berth.
       
Shorewood had beaten Oak Harbor, 60-41, Dec. 15.
 For the season, Shtikel leads Shorewood with an average of 12.9 points in the team’s 15 games; Echert has an average of 10.3 points in the 14 games she has played.
