Shoreline District Court Judge Marcine Anderson has an opponent.
He’s Dennis J. McCurdy of Shoreline, an assistant King County prosecutor. who filed for the position Friday.
Longtime Shoreline District Court Judge Doug Smith will be unopposed.

Both positions will appear on Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and Kenmore ballots in the August primary, when the election probably will be decided.
The rules of Washington judicial elections require that the positions appear on the primary ballot, with a candidate who gets a majority of the primary vote appearing unopposed on the general election ballot.

Anderson was appointed to the new Position 2 early this year.

It would be nice to have some real information. What are their backgrounds, do they believe in judicial activism, what are their records, etc... It is difficult to choose a judge based soley on their resume and the fact that they both have happy children! Now that the time to decide is here we (voters) need REAL information. Does one of them go to Tea Party rallies? Maybe one hobnobbs with the gov or with the tennis shoe mom Murray. This is what we need to know.

The issues that anonymous raises have little to do with a district Court, a court that dealt with misdemeanor crimes, small civil claims, traffic offenses, domestic disputes.
It should be a matter of competence and temperament.
The best guides are bar association ratings.
Perhaps we should abandon judicial elections in favor of appointments based on recommendations from a commission.
