Shoreline City Council recognizes Shoreline Student Champions

Shorecrest Hip Hop after winning the District Title in May

On June 10, 2019 the Shoreline City Council recognized Shoreline students from King’s School, and Shorecrest and Shorewood High Schools for competing in and winning in various statewide and national competitions.

Those recognized included:
  • The Shorecrest High School Hip Hop Team, which finished in Second Place in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) 3A State Championships and finished First Place at the West Coast Elite Dance Nationals. Team members included Adam Kurniawan, Ana McDade, Ava Flum, Destiny Stevens, Elena Tapia, Ellie Sidler, Emma Libby, Hannah Sy, Julienne Asuncion, Katrina Shih, MaeLea Willis, Maria Lazarou, Mellot Samuel, Neve Lin, Yemisi Bolonduro, Reva FrareDavis, Saphiah Montanez, Shiuan Chu, Trinity Howell and Wintana Eyob, and with the team coached by Rex Kinney with Assistant Tong Cha, and Coaches Kirsten Kinney, Alexa Vergara and Advisor Kim Wiley
  • Shorecrest High School student Kiana Lino who earned First Place in the WIAA 3A Shot Put State Championship in May
  • King’s Schools student Naomi Smith who earned First Place in the WIAA 1A State Championship in Cross Country, the 1600-meter, and the 3200-meter events and was coached by Rod Wilcox
  • Shorewood High School student Jonathan Birchman who earned First Place in the WIAA 3A State Championship in 300-meter hurdles
  • Shorewood students Karl Lapham and Jasmine Pritikin were finalists in DECA Internationals for the Entrepreneurship Team Decision Event.

The Council recognized the students’ accomplishments, dedication, hard work, and perseverance and declared June 10 Student Champions Day in the City of Shoreline.
