Overnight lane and ramp closures on northbound I-5 in Seattle for fire suppression testing begin Thursday

People who use northbound Interstate 5 in Seattle should plan for overnight lane reductions and travel delays beginning Thursday night, July 19. 

The lane and ramp closures will allow Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews space to test the fire suppression system underneath the Washington State Convention Center.

Overnight travelers on northbound I-5 should expect:

Thursday, July 19:
  • One lane closed on northbound I-5 between Cherry Street and Olive Way from 11:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19 to 4:30 a.m. Friday, July 20.
  • The University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11 p.m. Thursday, July 19 to 4:30 a.m. Friday, July 20.

Friday, July 20:
  • Northbound I-5 traffic reduced to one lane between Cherry Street and Mercer Street from 11:59 p.m.Friday, July 20 to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21.
  • The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will close from 11:59 p.m. Friday, July 20 to 6 a.m.Saturday, July 21.
