Photos: Face off at the Juice Bar

Photos and text by Wayne Pridemore

Today we had a face off between hummingbirds -- an Anna and perhaps a ruby throated Rufous, at our year round feeder.

These two spared around the juice bar for several minutes.

Usually a conflict lasts just seconds before one is driven away.

The Anna lives in our area all year while the Rufous winters the southern California region. Someone should tell the little guy that it is almost December.

I am happy to say both hummers are Anna's. But wonderful pictures and I loved seeing the dance for the feeder. and most likely the dance of love as well. Looks like a bit of hummingbird courting possibly. https://www.facebook.com/HummingbirdHavenOregon/

The pink/red head is a male Anna, the other a female. Anna's mate in winter. We have the page Hummingbird Haven. Link above. I am thrilled to see you posting about the Anna's which we are so blessed to have year round.
