The Million Step Challenge at Paramount School Park is returning in May with an even greater challenge for the Shoreline Community.

For 2015, the City of Shoreline and Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association will be measuring the distance we collectively walk during the month of May with the goal of reaching 2,600 miles -the distance from Mexico to Canada along the Pacific Crest Trail.

The Trail has been made popular recently through the Oscar nominated movie “Wild”, and although most of us will never have the opportunity to walk the trail on our own, we can see how many people, steps, and days it would take for us as a whole community to complete the journey.

Participants of all ages are encouraged to visit Paramount School Park between May 1 and 31 and log the number of laps they complete each time on the paper tracking form located at the park (or online). Current standing and totals will be posted weekly and prizes will be awarded to top steppers at the closing event on Sunday, May 31.

The park is located at 15298 8th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155 in the Ridgecrest Neighborhood.

Million Step Challenge Opening Event and Annual Ridgecrest Neighborhood Plant Exchange and Elections – Saturday, May 2, 9:00am.

To kick off the challenge, the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association is inviting the community to the Million Step Challenge Opening Event. A warm up and inaugural lap will be led by Crossfit Hailstorm with energizing snacks and giveaways from Fire and Earth Kitchen and Iora Primary Care, all local businesses.

Immediately after the opening event, the Ridgecrest Neighborhood Association will hold its Annual Plant Exchange and Executive Board Elections. People are encouraged to bring extra cuttings or divided plants from their garden and trade them with each other. Recology Cleanscapes will be on site presenting a clinic on recycling and composting. More information about the Plant Exchange here.

How many steps can I count for my dog since he goes around with me? I'm thinking twice as many since he has four feet and I have two...Can I count the steps it takes me to get to the park to start the round?
