Shorecrest - Shorewood boys soccer Wednesday

Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Undefeated and top-ranked Shorecrest (7-0, 10-0-1) squares off against crosstown rival Shorewood (5-2, 6-3-2) Wednesday night at Shoreline Stadium (map) in a Western Conference 3A/2A boys soccer match. Game time is 7pm.

There will be more on the line than there was when the two teams first met this season, when the Scots and T-Birds played to a scoreless tie March 24 in a non-league game.

Coach Drew Thompson's Scots are a senior-laden team and they have outscored their opposition by a 32-3 count, including 8 shutouts.

The Shorecrest varsity takes a 7-0 Wesco 3A/2A record (10-0-1 overall) into the Wednesday game with Shorewood (5-2, 6-3-2).

Shorecrest, the only 2A team in the conference, already has clinched a place in the Northwest District 2A tournament. The Scots needed to place 11th or better in the 13-team conference to qualify for district play.

Bill Wilkins has a young T-Birds squad that enjoys an 11-8 scoring advantage. Shorewood stands third among Wesco 3A teams. The top seven Wesco 3A teams qualify for the Northwest District 3A tournament along with either the No. 8 Wesco 3A team or Ferndale of the Northwest 3A/2A/1A conference, depending on conference records.

With the schools on spring break, it could be an opportune time for local soccer fans to bring the whole family out to enjoy this great, friendly rivalry.

Junior varsity teams from the two schools play at 5pm.
