May was a busy month for Rain City Rotary. We did two projects!

First, we cleaned up the yard around Pathways for Women in Lynnwood. We filled a whole pickup truck with pine needles, pine cones, weeds and debris. Whew! The women who live at Pathways really appreciated all we do to keep the grounds looking nice.

RCR member Brad Lancaster says “Pathways for Women, which is a YWCA initiative, offers critical support to women and their children in crisis. Pathways creates domestic violence support groups, helps mothers create safety plans for themselves and their children, offers crisis counseling to women, and places women in emergency shelter. Rain City Rotary supports Pathways for Women’s efforts by helping maintain the organization’s exterior premises once or twice a year.”

Quarterly road cleanup on 15th NE

Second, we did our quarterly road cleanup along 15th Ave NE. Many hands made light work and we were done in a little over an hour. We made two interesting finds, some sort of animal skeleton and a pretty ring. We enjoy keeping our city looking nice.

RCR member Tom Andrews says “Littering is all too human. Cleaning up someone else’s litter provides an opportunity on the values we have as a society and on the need to be more sensitive to the environment we create for ourselves.”

Rain City Rotary meets most Thursday evenings at 6:30 either at the Shoreline City Hall or a local restaurant. One Saturday a month members join in doing a local service project. You are welcome to join us! Learn more here.
