Shorecrest to play at Mount Vernon Thursday in first round of Northwest District basketball tournament

Shorecrest will play its first-round District-tournament game at Mount Vernon Thursday.
Mount Vernon plays its first-round tournament game at home as the No. 1 3A team from the Northwest League.

With Northwest League teams playing their final league games Monday, Mount Vernon has a two-game lead over 3A rivals Ferndale and Sedro Woolley.

Although Mount Vernon is the No. 1 3A team in the Northwest League, it is tied for eighth in the 14-team mixed-class league with 2A Mount Baker and 1A Meridian, behind 2A Anacortes, Burlington-Edison, Lynden, Sehome and Squalicum, and 1A Lynden Christian and Nooksack Valley.

The winner of the game between Shorecrest and Mount Vernon will play in a Saturday semifinal game against the winner of the game between Shorewood and Mountlake Terrace. The losers of the games will meet Saturday in an elimination game.

A Saturday game between Shorecrest and Shorewood would be at Shorecrest. A game between Shorecrest and Mountlake Terrace would be at Mountlake Terrace.

Shorecrest’s Thursday game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Mount Vernon High School.
