Weston Lucas has been selected as an assistant principal at Shorecrest High School, pending school board approval, Superintendent Rebecca Miner announced today. He will be replacing Heather Hiatt who was selected to become the principal at Kellogg Middle School at the end of the school year.

Lucas will be joining Shoreline Public Schools from the Mercer Island School District, where he has served as a teacher, program coordinator and administrative intern at Islander Middle School. He has over 10 years of experience in middle and high school instruction, curriculum design, assessment strategies and leadership.

“We’re excited to have Mr. Lucas joining our leadership team,” said Miner. "He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise that will support high levels of student and staff success at Shorecrest.”

His experience includes facilitating district-wide initiatives, such as implementation of the Washington State Teacher/Principal Evaluation Program and Common Core State Standards alignment and technology integration. He has also developed curriculum in English and Theater Arts for highly capable students and created the school’s “Day of Service,” which provides community service opportunities for students.

The selection followed an extensive search and interview process involving student, staff and community representation.

Lucas completed his bachelor’s degree in English from Washington State University and master’s degree in theater production at Central Washington University. He obtained his administrative certification from Seattle Pacific University and holds a certificate in teacher leadership from the University of Washington.
