Traffic monitor center
Gov. Jay Inslee will visit the WSDOT Shoreline Traffic Management Center in Shoreline on Tuesday, where he will learn about its various operations and speak with WSDOT engineers about congestion trends in the Puget Sound region. The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and includes:

  • WSDOT radio dispatch to communicate with WSDOT crews and contractors on the road. They also function as the main points of contact with the Washington State Patrol.
  • Tunnel operation systems to monitor traffic, fire suppression and ventilation systems inside the Mt. Baker and Mercer Island lids.
  • Traffic flow monitoring of all major arterials to scan for blocking incidents and stalls, monitor and control ramp meters, and populate overhead electronic message boards on the highway.
  • Communications to provide traffic reporters with real time information about the commute and manage the Seattle Traffic Twitter account which has more than 82,000 followers.

After touring the TMC, the governor will talk about the various transportation projects being considered by the Legislature as part of a new investment package and how those projects will help mitigate current and projected congestion levels throughout the region.

To think, Dan Eernissee wants to make this center a movie studio in the Aurora Square CRA! City Hall seems to believe the CRA powers they invoked allow them eminent domain proceedings against WSDOT.
