Cinderella longs to attend the Prince’s festival, Jack dreams of a better life, and Little Red Riding Hood ventures into the woods to visit her grandmother.
Meanwhile, a baker and his wife, desperate for a child, discover that a curse cast by their mysterious neighbor stands in their way. To break the curse, they must gather a series of extraordinary objects, setting a chain of encounters and consequences into motion.
As several beloved fairy tales collide, Into the Woods reveals the darker truths and deeper questions beneath the prospect of “happily ever after"---among them, what do we owe one another? What happens when individual desires outweigh collective responsibility?
In a cultural moment when our individual choices reverberate in the lives of others, this cautionary tale feels especially urgent. All that plus delightful comedy and classic Sondheim tunes? You're in for an unforgettable theatrical journey.
Into the Woods will run from Thursday, November 12 through Sunday, November 15 and again the following weekend, Friday, November 20 through Sunday, November 22. (Please note that there is no Thursday performance on the second weekend this time!)
Age recommendation: These are not Disney-style fairy tales, but lean heavily on the darker Grimm-Brothers tradition featuring mature themes and some macabre moments, particularly in the second act. The licensing company calls it PG-13. The first act is often licensed by itself as a "Junior" version to schools and youth theatre groups; while our public performances will include both acts, sensitive younger children might most enjoy just an Act I experience.
