Huge congratulations to Itzel Morales Rodriguez, who has been named a Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation Program semifinalist!

Chosen from more than 113,000 applicants nationwide, Itzel is among the select students advancing in the program, with an advancement rate of just 1.08%. She is being recognized for leadership, service, and academic excellence.

Itzel has also been named a QuestBridge National College Match Finalist, one of just 7,526 students nationwide selected for the 2026 Match!

QuestBridge finalists are high-achieving students who earn top grades in the most rigorous courses available and show strong writing ability and intellectual curiosity. They’re selected for demonstrating resilience, integrity, and the motivation to succeed, qualities Itzel embodies both in and out of the classroom.

Itzel’s path is defined by service, curiosity, and giving back to the community that helped shape her. She volunteers at El Centro de la Raza, supporting legal clinic intakes and interpreting, and at the Center for Human Services, helping children learn English through their Play and Learn program – the very same program she once attended with her family as a child.

Academically, Itzel’s curiosity runs deep. Beginning in her sophomore year, she participated in the Research Training Program (RTP) at Seattle Children’s Research Institute, where she conducted biology laboratory research.

This past summer, she attended the prestigious Summer Science Program International at the College of Wooster, where she conducted college-level research in bacterial genomics, and she’s currently earning her phlebotomy certification. Itzel hopes to study biology and pursue a future as a research scientist.

Beyond academics, Itzel dances with Bailadores de Bronce, serves as Chief Justice with Shorecrest ASB, is an Ambassador and Link Leader at school, and sits on the Student Advisory Council to the Student Representatives to the School Board.

Itzel would like to thank English and AVID Teacher Mr. Stephen Haines, Math Teacher Ms. Claire Hinman, and AVID counselor Jenny Breed who have supported her educational journey, written letters of recommendation for her internships and scholarships, and believed in her potential every step of the way.

She also wants to thank her mom for her sacrifices and encouragement, and her sister, Britany, who is her biggest supporter and greatest cheerleader, continuing to support her all the way from Pullman. Britany is someone she can always lean on, and her support means the world to her.

Congratulations, Itzel! We are so proud of you and can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next!
