The hilarious Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 by John Bishop opens at the Phoenix Theatre in Edmonds this week on Friday October 2nd!
"December, 1940. Elsa Von Grossenknueten, an eccentric theatre financier, has gathered a team at her mansion in New York. Everyone believes that they will have a backer’s audition for Elsa in order to get financing for the newest musical."However, the shadow of the team’s last show hangs over the group--deemed a flop, Manhattan Holiday was ravaged by the 'Stage Door Slasher,' a mysterious killer who stabbed chorus girls. The undercover police officer Michael Kelly is hoping to flush out the killer from this group of suspects--but the killer has other plans.
"Throw in blizzard conditions, possible Nazi saboteurs, secret passageways, and some musical snippets to create an Agatha-Christie-meets-Clue whodunnit parody."
The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940 is a zany spoof of 1940s detective thrillers and screwball comedies. It’s a play that thrives on absurdity, misdirection, and rapid-fire wit-- never taking itself too seriously.
Directed by Keith Dahlgren and playing October 2 thru October 25, 2026 Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2pm.
The Phoenix Theatre is located in Firdale Village, 9673 Firdale Ave, Edmonds, WA 98020 in the back building.
