Fire in apartment laundry room

Yesterday afternoon, Shoreline Fire crews were dispatched to reports of smoke in an apartment building in the 1100 block of N 200 St. 

Crews arrived to find smoke coming from the laundry room with an unknown source. As the wall was opened up, crews discovered fire traveling upward through the wall and across the ceiling. The call was upgraded to a working fire, and firefighters quickly opened the ceiling and extinguished the fire. 

One apartment above the laundry room was impacted, and property management assisted the resident. No injuries were reported. 

The fire originated from ducting connected to the laundry room. This serves as an important reminder to check both your dryer’s internal lint cleanout and the ductwork that vents to the outside. A little maintenance can prevent a much bigger emergency.
