Shoreline School District is holding a public surplus sale on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the district warehouse, 2003 NE 160th St., Shoreline WA 98155 (inside Hamlin Park)
Find great deals on furniture, musical instruments, tables, shelving, exercise equipment, and more, including cellos, violas, violins, and a wide range of band instruments.
Cash and credit/debit cards are accepted (no checks), and all sales are final.

I don't understand why this cello and the other instruments are being sold as surplus. It seems like waste from the school district. Either they should fix them so students who can't afford a cello can play, or if they're unfixable, they should junk them instead of unethically selling garbage to the public.
ReplyDeleteCelli that look beaten up can often have a lot of life left in them with a little care.
Who decides what gets sold? Isn't there a charity around here that collects instruments and rehabs and donates them to schools/student for use by those who can't afford their own? Why wouldn't the district contact them and make a deal to donate a few instruments in return for refreshed instruments? Let a volunteer from PTSA coordinate rather than create a new administrative position to further bloat the overhead.
