After the longtime North City/Shoreline spot at 17751 15th Ave NE burned down, there has been no rebuilding at the original site. Instead, Suni’s Express opened across the street in 2024 — and business has only grown.

Last August, the restaurant expanded into the adjacent space that once housed Brown’s Coffee. An employee told me the owner has invested so much into the current location that they now plan to stay long-term.
The former property? It has since been sold.
As for what’s drawing customers in, the employee said their top sellers are pizza and The Famous Suni’s Burger — a ¼-pound burger topped with lean bacon strips, melted cheese, lettuce, onions, tomato and mayonnaise.
Sounds like a cheeseburger in paradise to me.

What happened to Golden Bow?

glad they are still around. Hope they will eventually get a little outdoor-ish patio also!

ReplyDeleteWe were genuinely excited to see Suny’s Express reopen after the fire and relocate across the street. It’s great to have them back in Shoreline.
ReplyDeleteThat said, our first visit felt different from what we remembered. The items we used to order every time — the Suny Burger and extra-crispy fries — were no longer on the menu. Those were the staples for us, so that was disappointing.
From what we could tell, the kitchen setup appears to have changed. It doesn’t seem like they’re running a traditional flat-top grill or deep-fat fryer anymore. The texture and finish we associated with their burgers and fries — that hard sear from a steel griddle and properly fried, extra-crispy potatoes — just weren’t there. It may be related to ventilation or hood system limitations in the new space, which can affect whether a restaurant can operate high-heat grease equipment like fryers and open griddles.
We haven’t tried the pizza yet, so can’t comment on that, but overall it felt like a different concept than the Suny’s we knew. We were hoping for the same menu and cooking methods that made it a go-to for us.
Still glad they’re back — just adjusting expectations.
