The coordinated protests across the country were meant as a pointed response to the elaborate military parade in Washington, D.C.—an event staged to mark President Trump’s 79th birthday, the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary, and Flag Day.
Many Americans see the D.C. parade as merely a grandiose, self-congratulatory display echoing authoritarian pageantry seen in countries like Russia and North Korea.
In Shoreline, protestors initially lined one side of Aurora before crossing to both sides, creating a sea of signs and chants that drew honks of support—and a few revving engines—from passing drivers.
The mood was calm. Smiles, conversations, and shared convictions marked the event. Organizers reminded participants to remain non-confrontational, advising that anyone facing hostility should simply lower their signs and walk away.

The rally was part of the broader 50501 Movement, a grassroots effort created on Reddit and covering 50 states, 50 protests, and one movement-to defend democracy and reject authoritarianism.
The Shoreline protest was organized by Everyday Activists with assistance from Indivisible Shoreline.

It's interesting to see all these people protesting for "No Kings." Washington had a king within recent memory.
ReplyDeleteWhere were all these protesters when Gov. Inslee ruled unchecked for 975 days? He kept a tight grasp on his emergency powers long after the pandemic was over.
He fired state employees.
He kept schools closed at least a year too long.
He shuttered thousands of businesses, destroying the livelihoods of both the owners and the employees.
If people are going to decry politicians assuming autocratic powers, maybe they should have said something --- anything --- about 2 1/2 years of rule under one man.
In your world if the governor is a king is the president and emperor?
DeleteGeorge Washington was never a King and turned down the idea of the monarchy in America. Your ignorance is astounding
DeleteYeah, Inslee and Trump are SO similar. Did you attend? Did you see what people were protesting about?
ReplyDeleteCan you refute any of the commentators statements? Or are personal insults the best you can do?
DeleteWhat an amazing community! Over 2000 people came together peacefully, defending our Constitution, expressing our love of the U.S. and our belief that we can do better. 250 years ago, we dethroned a king: and we're not going back! The atmosphere was joyously determined. Posted reviews were 100% positive.
ReplyDelete238 pounds of food and toiletries were donated and delivered to our local food bank.
Let's keep it growing! The only way to force action on the political level is sustained action on the local level. Politicians of all stripes need to feel that their seats are threatened if they don't stand up to MAGA and felonious leader.
Special thanks to Shoreline Mayor Chris Roberts for his leadership!
You published a veteran with a sign that is completely false with its message and yet you doubled down with the caption”This veteran reminded people of what Trump said about soldiers” he did not call them that and had been taken out of context but this is the kind of dishonest reporting to further divide us. President Trump is very supportive of our military and our veterans. Just stop.
