CORRECTION: Dems endorse 1 Shoreline incumbent, 1 challenger, 3 OTHER NEWCOMERS; 3 LFP incumbents, 1 challenger

By Evan Smith

Local Democrats have endorsed a Shoreline City Council incumbent and a challenger, and three Lake Forest Park incumbents and one challenger in 2017 elections.

Democrats in the 32nd Legislative District have endorsed Shoreline Council incumbent Chris Roberts and challenger Jin-Ah Kim.

Kim will meet incumbent Councilman Keith McGlashan in the November 7 general election. Roberts will be unopposed on the November ballot, as will incumbent Councilman Will Hall.

In the three-way primary to replace retiring Councilwoman Shari Winstead, Dems endorsed all three candidates. Political newcomers Carolyn Ahlgreen, Susan Chang and Bergith Kayyali are running in the August 1 primary, with two qualifying for the general-election ballot.

In Lake Forest Park, 46th Legislative District Democrats have endorsed City Council incumbents Mark Philips, John Resha and Semra Riddle, and challenger Benjamin Gonzalaz O'Brien. O'Brien will meet incumbent John Wright in November. Phillips, Resha and Riddle will be unopposed.

Democrats in both districts have endorsed Shoreline School Board candidate Heather Fralik. Fralik and Jill Brady are running for the position that incumbent Debi Ehrlichman is leaving after three four-year terms. Democrats have not endorsed either candidate in the other school-board contest between incumbent David Wilson and challenger Steven Pollak.

King County Democrats have endorsed incumbent County Councilman Rod Dembowski, incumbent County Executive Dow Constantine and incumbent County Sheriff John Urquhart. Constantine has three challengers on the primary ballot for the two places on the general-election ballot. Uhrquart has one challenger in November. Dembowski is unopposed.

Local Republicans have listed no endorsements for 2017.

All local offices are non-partisan.

The 32nd Legislative District includes Shoreline, part of northwest Seattle, Woodway and nearby unincorporated areas of Snohomish County, south Edmonds, the city of Lynnwood and part of Mountlake Terrace.

The 46th District includes Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and northeast Seattle.

Correction: in the previous edition, it said there was no endorsement in the Shoreline Council race for Shari Winstead's seat. However, the Dems endorsed all three candidates.
