The Shoreline City Council’s annual strategic planning workshop scheduled for February 27-28 at Cedarbrook Conference Center in SeaTac has been moved to Shoreline City Hall. The workshop agenda will remain the same, it is just a change in location.
On Wednesday, February 25, it came to City staff’s attention that there is currently a class-action labor dispute involving Cedarbrook regarding payment of minimum wage as a result of the passage of the SeaTac $15/hr initiative.
City Councilmembers value and support labor’s efforts to ensure employees are appropriately compensated and respect their work to resolve the issue through a dispute resolution process, therefore, the location of the workshop has been moved to City Hall.
The workshop will begin at 8:30am on Friday, February 27 and conclude on Saturday afternoon.
I don't believe this union garbage for one second - all of the council are Democrats and most of them have been endorsed by the 32nd LD Democrats. The 32nd LD Democrats have a position on on the SeaTac labor dispute dating back to 2013 and the City staff just found about it? Probably not, this is just a coverup they are hoping the public will accept.
ReplyDeleteI have a better question, since the City cancelled 24 hours before the event, does that mean they have lost the deposit they probably had to pay to Cedarbrook Lodge? Does that mean they still have to pay for at least one day of the event? After all, Cedarbrook turned away other customers because the City of Shoreline reserved their facility.
This event has been planned for months, to go back and cite a labor dispute means that the City staff failed to perform their due diligence. But wait! There is no punishment at the City of Shoreline for incompetence.
Additionally, present City Manager and then Finance Officer Debbie Tarry made the rounds in 2010 during the campaign for the property tax levy lid lift, raising the boogey man that if the levy didn't pass, the City staff may unionize. The City Manager's Office has never been a friend of unions, they have always been opposed to unions at the City of Shoreline.
This is bogus, just like all of their other moves.
The Union excuse is ridiculous! It was a convenient ruse to get them out of their committment on the posh Cedarbrook accomodations, right when Council is in the headlights for their hideous rezone fiascos!
