| Shadow Altar Box to honor the dead |
Built Shadow Altar Boxes Saturday, October 25, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm at the Richmond Beach Library, 19601 21st Ave NW 98177, 206-546-3522.
Day of the dead altars are built during Dia de los Muertos to honor the lives of those who have passed. They are often quite beautiful creations, constructed with love and care. Creating these altars is one of the most important traditions during Day of the Dead in Mexico and in Mexican-American communities around the globe.
Participants will learn how to create an “Altar, shrine or shadow box” by cutting, bending and altering carton boxes using Loteria cards (Mexican bingo), colorful paper , gem stones , assorted paper and found objects. Participants are welcome to bring a picture of their family loved ones to honor a Shrine.
