New director of assessment and student learning named

Shoreline School District
Michael Power has been selected as the director of assessment and student learning for the Shoreline School District, Superintendent Rebecca Miner announced. 

Michael is currently manager of educational programs for the Tacoma Housing Authority, where he directs programs that support low-income families, working closely with Tacoma Public Schools. He previously served as assistant superintendent for program and learning support in Tacoma, supervising its instructional programs, including research and evaluation, curriculum and instructional technology. Prior to that he served as director of instruction and assessment for Mercer Island and executive director of curriculum and assessment for Everett.

Michael received his doctorate in educational psychology and masters in English as a Second Language from the University of Hawaii, and superintendent’s certification from Seattle Pacific University. He has served as an instructor at the University of Washington, Seattle Pacific University and the University of Hawaii, and is the author of numerous articles and presentations related to assessment, evaluation and research in public schools. He co-wrote two texts for teachers focused on effective instructional techniques.
