Often referred to as fiction that is aware of itself, authors sometimes choose meta-fiction to bypass their characters and narrators’ voices and address their readers directly. Instructor Douglas Smith introduces the technical aspects, and engages participants in an exercise to manipulate existing prose in the interest of making it meta.
