It’s truly the end of an era. Shorecrest High School is undergoing a major reconstruction, and with it, over 50 years of basketball history in its original gymnasium.

For over five decades, fans have flocked to the gymnasium to cheer on their favorite high school sports teams. On June 9, the community will have one last chance to support the basketball teams in the original gym, and say goodbye to the historic structure before it is demolished this summer.

“There is so much history, so many stories in this gym,” says Brian Fischer, head coach of the Shorecrest boys’ basketball team. “Every home game, every assembly, every major school event has taken place here. The boys and girls basketball teams are honored to have been involved in that history, and this is our chance to say goodbye to the building.”

The event on June 9 will feature two final basketball games:
  • 5 p.m.: 2011-2012 Shorecrest varsity girls’ basketball team, (finishing the season 4th in State with a 22-5 record) versus an all-star Shorecrest alumni girls’ basketball team.
  • 6:30 p.m.: 2011-2012 Shorecrest varsity boys’ basketball team (finishing the season with an 18-7 record) versus an all-star Shorecrest alumni boys’ basketball team.

A $5 suggested donation will be collected at the door, with all proceeds benefiting the Shorecrest boys’ and girls’ basketball teams. Refreshments and retro Shorecrest basketball gear will be available for sale, and giveaways and fun activities for the entire family will take place throughout the event.

Saturday, June 9, 5 pm, Shorecrest High School gymnasium, 15343 25th Ave NE, Shoreline, WA 98155
