School Board approves resolution in support of Lake Forest Park levy lid lift

The Shoreline School Board has approved a resolution in support of Proposition 1, a property tax levy-lid lift for retention of basic public safety and other services that will appear on the August 17, 2010 ballot. Following is the full text of the resolution:

Resolution No. 2010-13
July 19, 2010

WHEREAS, the City of Lake Forest Park will hold an election August 17, 2010 on Proposition 1, a Levy for Retention of Basic Public Safety and Other Services; and

WHEREAS, approval of this levy lid lift would allow the City of Lake Forest Park to maintain basic public safety, parks, community and other governmental services; and

WHEREAS, the Shoreline School District, having two of its elementary schools, Brookside and Lake Forest Park, within the City of Lake Forest Park, has an interest in retaining those services to the community;

WHEREAS, the Shoreline School District values its nearly 50-year partnership with the City of Lake Forest Park in serving our community and is concerned that additional reductions in the city's budget will further impact its quality of service;

NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Shoreline Board of Directors endorses the City of Lake Forest Park Proposition 1 on the August 17, 2010 ballot, and urges voters to support this measure with a Yes vote.

Adopted by the Board of Directors of the Shoreline School District No. 412, King County, Washington at its regular meeting on July 19, 2010.

  1. The city, and any tax funded entity must adjust it's income to closely match the percent decrease of income of the average citizen, or, even better yet, allow tax exemptions to the under and un employed. The city cannot be squeezing blood from a turnip. They need to realize that they are part of an economic system, which is now a system in distress. How about, instead of taxing us more when we are short on funds ourselves, they get creative, like decrease hours of all staff and have some of the staff hours be volunteer hours. That's what a lot of underemployed folks do with our free time. We ALL must share in what must be done. There should be no special privileges for government, or anyone. We all need to pick up the slack to keep things going.

  2. Given the reputation of the school board lately, the people against the levy should be pretty happy about this. As my mom used to say, "Well that's the kiss of death!"

  3. One hand washes another - the Shoreline and Lake Forest Park City Councils supported the School District Levy & Bond, so the school district is just paying them back.

    It boggles the mind, next week the City of Shoreline has a levy lift on the agenda. Lake Forest Park and Shoreline have not had the cutbacks and furloughs that Edmonds, Seattle, Mountlake Terrace, SnoCo, and King County have, but they want to raise taxes. The school district and cities in this area keep on demanding more taxes even though we are in the worst economic climate in decades.

    It's time to vote out the school board, and the city council members in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park who think higher taxes in this economic climate are a good thing.
