Letter to the Editor: NoLFPprop1 Committee Relying on Misconceptions and Twisted Facts

To the Editor:

Two days ago, I received a very upsetting flyer in the mail from “The Lake Forest Park Rangers” dealing with LFP Prop 1. Besides being in very poor taste, this “Tortured Baby” flyer is full of misinformation and twisted facts. After a little research, it appears that the” LFP Rangers” are a registered 527 Group, which is a political entity set up specifically to influence the outcome of an election. Due to an IRS loophole, 527 groups do not have to report the names of supporters or how much money was contributed. Curiously, their return address is that of one of the NoLFP Committee’s most vocal advocates.

Why the secrecy? Why the need to hide who your supporters are or where your money is coming from?

I find it interesting that so many of the NoLFP supporters are displaced or failed candidates for local office. Perhaps they should listen to the 67% of Lake Forest Park citizens who stated in the City’s most recent survey that they were happy with the current level of services, and the 50% of respondents who stated that they would be willing to pay a small increase in taxes to maintain those services.

The NoLFP Committee (their name says it all) is relying on secrecy, misinformation, and fear to push an agenda that is not good for our community, and ignores the fact that, in order to preserve our wonderful community, we must pay for the services that we all enjoy. Please vote YES on LFP Prop 1.

  1. Obviously, Mr Piano, you are frustrated, and you are unhappy at all the NO on Prop 1 signs. Look before you leap into writing something which says more about you, than the subject(s) of your prose. If you are frustrated to know there is more than one campaign formed to defeat Proposition 1, there is no reason for you to suggest there is any subterfuge going on.
Simply, citizens have to use every tool in the toolbox to fight City Hall's deep pockets for this funding misinformation on Proposition 1. City employees, are helping to run the Yes campaign. So, Mr. Piano, why don't you tell the entire story?

Do you really have to insult a baby's photo? Perhaps you would like to see one with lighter skin or blue eyes - tell voters - what is your point?

The group you refer to as the Lake Forest Park Rangers is a separate group.

The NO LFP Levy Lid Lift Campaign has bipartisan support. The 32nd Democrats and the 32nd Republicans have endorsed this campaign.
Citizens can find the facts on their website:

Better yet, come to the League of Women Voters

  2. Mr. Piano, why do you have to be so nasty, nasty, nasty? Can't you just make your case based on what you believe to be the facts? This is a policy matter that you, for some reason, insist on making into something personal. What have any of the people you refer to ever done to you that makes you so angry?

  3. Is it any wonder that, with the nastiness of some of the comments by Mr. Piano, many of the supporters of the No campaign chose to keep their info private?

    I think not.

  4. Mr. Piano's letter is full of twisted facts. He appears to be unable to locate the proper financial disclosure for the No campaign so it must be "secret." However, I was able to locate it right away, there are over 150 donors, large and small, who have contributed to this campaign.

He asserts, and casts aspersions on the campaign, because there might be "failed" candidates associated with it. I would read most political candidates (not all) as persons who are concerned about their community, why else would a person run for office. Not everyone can win.

Mr. Piano, in the interest of full disclosure, should have disclosed that he has contributed to the Yes campaign.

  5. George, George, George... don't get your panties all in a bunch. Why don't you try presenting the FACTS and not the spin that your friends are selling you?

Oh, I forgot, you and your other "give up one Latte a month to preserve our quality of life" little group of friends have been drinking the Koolaid for so long you have lost sight of reality.

This city doesn't belong to you and your small vocal group of friends- it belongs to ALL the people of Lake Forest Park.

I and a lot of other LFP residents gave up lattes two years ago because of the recession. You should look the word up- R-E-C-E-S-S-I-O-N.

  6. Mr. Piano, the name of the committee is NO LFP LEVY LID LIFT. It is not the "NO LFP COMMITTEE" as you assert. Another example of your fun little game of creating your own reality and ignoring the facts to suit your purposes.

How's business? It must be REALLY good if you have all the time to spread misinformation and throw money at the YES campaign.
