Quick-Start Shoreline Working Session: Connecting to Your Industry Group: Why and How Part II

Due to the excitement generated and the interesting discussions that occurred in our last session because of the international delegation, we decided to add a part II to this introductory session of the Connect Series. This will help set you up to learn how to get the most value out of your trade show experience as a business owner.

In this Quick Start Working Session entrepreneurs and experts will gain insights into attending, speaking, sponsoring, and even starting your own industry trade event - and why. Entrepreneurs and emerging leaders will gain tools to successfully:

  1. Fast track your traction in an industry by selecting the right trade event
  2. Become an industry expert by speaking, keynoting, or participating in local, national and global conferences
  3. Build lasting relationships and engage with new customers with proven 3-Step process
  4. Forge new partnerships through strategic sponsorship of the right industry events
  5. Go big or go home! Learn how to create your own industry event.

Goal of the Quick-Start Working Sessions
To provide our SCC Business Accelerator Community with access to leading experts and cutting edge business tools that can close the GAP in idea-to-expansion knowledge. These workshops will give start-ups, teams and students a chance to learn practical knowledge, as well as provide hands-on training, and networking opportunities with professionals in various branches of business.

Format of the Quick-Start Working Sessions
Each working session will focus on a single topic with Quick-Start staff and area experts providing key insights and knowledge regarding the topic in a 20 minute lecture format. After the lecture, the attendees will break into working sessions to engage with the topic as it relates to them. We will invite Quick-Start mentors and local entrepreneurs as a resource to the attendees to help answer any questions and think through any problems they may be facing.

Networking will begin at noon.
Lecture will begin at 12:15pm.
The working sessions will be open from 12:35pm to 1:30pm.

Superintendent of Public Instruction will not run for reelection in 2016

State Superintendent of Public Instruction for Washington State, Randy Dorn, recently released this statement:

After long, careful consideration, I have decided not to run for reelection for the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction in 2016. This decision doesn’t mean, though, that I am giving up the fight for our students and for a fully funded school system that is consistent with the paramount duty of our state constitution.

I have made no secret of my extreme frustration. Our constitution requires a uniform, amply funded school system. But such a system doesn’t exist today, and I see little, if any, progress toward creating one. The Governor has never offered a plan for reforming levies and reaching full state funding. Some promising proposals have been introduced in the Legislature, but none have made it even to a committee vote. And the state Supreme Court has yet to impose sanctions meaningful enough to compel the Governor and Legislature to act.

Our students need and deserve vigorous action from adults. But neither the Governor, the Legislature nor the Court have provided that leadership.

Regarding my future, I am keeping my options open.

I promise that, no matter what, I will be watching state officials very carefully. Meaningful progress must be made to reform our inadequate, inequitable and unconstitutional school funding system.

As an educator and elected official, I have spent my career fighting for our students. I am not about to stop now.

Solid Rock Cruisers Car Club to recognize the late Mel Anthony, vintage midget racer from Shoreline

Mel Anthony in #12
Mel raced until age 87

Mel Anthony was legendary among the vintage midget racers crowd, having started his career at age 14 in Shoreline and later racing for many years at the old Aurora Speedway near Bitter Lake. Mel resumed racing after a 40 year lapse, at age 83, and subsequently raced up to age 87 at race tracks through the Pacific Northwest.

Smoke, Sand, and Rubber
by Mel Anthony
Mel also wrote a book called "Smoke, Sand and Rubber", sharing stories of his racing, plus other racing legends, the Aurora Speedway and more. A film was produced by Greg Brotherton, a young filmmaker, that was featured on KCTS.

Solid Rock Cruisers Car Club will honor Mel at its meeting on Tuesday evening, October 27, at Spiro's Pizza, 18400 Aurora in Shoreline.

Bob Junell, member and friend of Mel, will show various videos and share some stories about Mel.

"Mel was a genuine person who loved and lived racing most of his life, stated Junell. "When he and his son, Dennis, bought and restored a 1947 Kurtis Offenhauser race car, Mel returned to racing.
He was quite the story teller, too, with humor and a twinkle in his eye. Known through the world by his counterparts and vintage racing buffs, Mel's exploits and stories are legendary."

Mel passed away at age 92. Mel was also honored in the Golden Age Racing Club's Hall of Fame. Golden Age is a club of many enthusiasts and both current and former midget racers which also meets in the Shoreline area. The Shoreline Historic Museum has historic records, photos and displays of the Aurora Speedway and hosts the annual Golden Wheel midgets racecar show.

Solid Rock Cruisers meets at 6:30pm at Spiro's, and is open to guests. For information, contact Bob Junell.

SCC students get torque certifications by Snap-on and NC3

T-TEN instructor Jeff Cromwell (third from left) and his students take a moment at The Professional Automotive Training Center – Dealer Training Academy at Shoreline Community College to display their torque certifications from the National Coalition of Certification Centers and Snap-on.

Think you know how to tighten a bolt? Righty-tighty, lefty-loosey?

Think again.

The National Coalition of Certification Centers (NC3) program housed in the Snap-On Innovation Center at The Professional Automotive Training Center – Dealer Training Academy at Shoreline Community College has one word for you: Torque.

There is a perception that applying torque to a fastener is intuitive, anyone can do it, according to NC3. Perhaps, but the ability to do it properly is what makes the difference. To that end, NC3 and Snap-on have developed certification programs for torque and other skills that are aimed at giving technicians a comprehensive understanding of torque and the ability to properly apply it on the job.

And certification is just what students in the Toyota Technician Training and Education Network (T-TEN) program at Shoreline Community College recently received after completing the two-day training.

“I knew this was a good program and wanted our students to be able to take advantage of it,” said Kevin Roner, T-TEN Coordinator and Instructor at Shoreline. Roner said 13 T-Ten students received four certifications each for a total of 52 certifications earned. “I have to say that I learned a few things, too.”

The students were awarded certifications in these four areas:
  1. Hand Tool Safety
  2. Torque Theory
  3. Torque Wrench
  4. Electronic Torque Wrench
The instruction and testing was conducted by Jeff Cromwell, T-TEN Instructor at Shoreline. Cromwell completed a week-long training and certification program this past summer at Snap-on facilities in Kenosha, Wisc., to be able to provide the program at Shoreline.

“This training illustrates our commitment to providing industry-specific, stackable certifications with a national certification body like NC3,” said Michael Boehm, Director of Dealer Services and Manufacturer Relations at Shoreline.

Washington State Patrol establishes Veteran Preference website

The Washington State Patrol (WSP) has established a link to a website to identify individuals who applied to be a trooper and believe they were not given their veteran’s preference points on prior applicant tests. Washington State law requires state agencies to give veterans’ preference points to honorably discharged veterans during the hiring process.

A lawsuit has been brought against the State of Washington and the WSP alleging the state agency failed to provide required veterans’ preference points on tests given to trooper applicants. In order to identify persons who may be claimants potentially entitled to compensation in connection with this litigation, the WSP and the Plaintiffs in the case are seeking information from anyone who is an honorably discharged veteran, applied to work as a trooper with the WSP between January 1, 1994, and January 1, 2013, and passed the tests given by the patrol but were not hired.

Potala Place property in receivership, Feds move to seize Shoreline property

According to an in-depth article in The Seattle Times, Path America, the real estate development company which purchased a triangle of property between Aurora Square and Aurora Avenue, was placed in receivership Thursday, and the SEC is moving to seize the property.

The company has denied any wrongdoing, and lawyers for Dargey say he was only taking legitimate fees or borrowing money he intended to repay. Dargey has declined to comment.
The SEC has recast the narrative of Dargey’s success as a swindle, an “egregious theft of EB-5 investor funds.”
The agency in August won a court order freezing his assets, and on Thursday Dargey lost control of Path America when a federal judge put it in receivership. The Justice Department is moving to seize the Bellevue home and Shoreline property allegedly bought with the immigrants’ money. And, as Dargey’s attorney said in court last week, there’s also a criminal investigation under way.

The City of Shoreline, in the meantime, is taking steps to have the buildings on the property condemned and demolished. See previous story.

The 355 Project: Homelessness among Shoreline Schools students

Friday, October 23, 2015

One pennant for each homeless school child in Shoreline Public Schools

The Social Advocacy Committee of Ronald United Methodist Church has launched a community awareness campaign around homelessness among students in the Shoreline School District

The 355 Project takes its name from the number of students self-identified as homeless at the close of the 2014-15 school year. The number is likely much higher, as it doesn't include siblings too young to be in school, or students who are homeless but not identified.

The SAC has installed a display on the front lawn of the church at 17839 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline, that includes a banner which states "Did you know? There are 355 homeless students in the Shoreline School District," as well as more than 355 primary color pennants, many decorated with children's hand prints. The extra pennants acknowledge those students that remain unidentified.

"We chose hand prints and pennants as a theme because each one relates to a child that has no permanent, sustainable, safe home on a day to day basis," said Carla Roque, chair of the Ronald SAC.

The Ronald SAC installed the banners and signs on Aurora so the drivers of the many cars going by, bus passengers and pedestrians can be informed about this "very serious" issue, said Paula McCutcheon, pastor of RUMC.

The installation also was timed to coincide with the groundbreaking of Ronald Commons, a partnership between Compass Housing Alliance, Hopelink and RUMC, to build 60 units of affordable housing, a new 12K-square-foot service center for Hopelink and improved community space in the church.

"Affordable housing, particularly for families earning 30 percent to 50 percent of area median income, is crucial to ending homelessness among children and adults," McCutcheon said.

Flyers with information on The 355 Project are available (download here) to help those interested become informed on how to advocate, donate and volunteer at organizations working to help homeless youth and prevent homelessness in the youth population.

"The Homelessness Education Liaison for the school district, Pam Kinnaird, is in great need of food and grocery cards to help families meet emergency needs," said Pastor McCutcheon. "Very often, her office is the first point of contact for homeless families."

For information of the specific needs of students who are homeless, contact Kinnaird 206-393-3387. You can also make donations of grocery or gas cards or a financial donation to the the Homeless Liaison Office through Shoreline School District, Atten: Pam Kinnaird, 18560 1st Ave. NE, Shoreline, WA 98155.)

The 355 Project

The Ronald SAC is planning additional events to spotlight homelessness in the school district and in Shoreline. Future events will include speakers and short films.

"It's our hope other faith communities and civic organizations will become involved in this issue so that we may establish a community dialog to seek some concrete solutions," Roque said.

A representative of The 355 Project is available to make presentations to community groups and organizations.

For more information on The 355 Project, including additional flyers or to request a presentation, please email Phyllis Johnson.

What can other states learn from our early learning successes?

Rep. Ruth Kagi D-32
Earlier this week, Representative Ruth Kagi (D-32) presented at a National Governors Association meeting in Seattle on creating and implementing an early learning agenda.

The National Governors Association brought leaders from 12 states to learn from Washington’s success in developing and implementing science-informed policies and strategies to get better results for children.

What happens to major policy initiatives when governors, legislative leaders and agency directors change?

When it seems like so much of our national and state policies depend on who is in office at any given time, how can we make sure that policies to help future generations will be implemented and sustained?

One of the panels that Rep. Kagi participated in specifically addressed how to sustain policy objectives and research-based methods through transitions in the governor’s office, the legislature and the agencies responsible for implementing these policies.

“By using research to shape our policies, especially our policies aimed at giving young children a strong start, we are building a strong, bi-partisan foundation that will not be thrown out each time a new person steps into a leadership role,” said Kagi.
“Washington State has built understanding and support for high quality early learning based on the science of early brain development and research on what is effective. This decade long process culminated in the passage of Early Start this session which commits the state to supporting and rewarding high quality pre-school and child care in Washington.”

The 32nd legislative district includes all of Shoreline, part of north Seattle, and extends into Snohomish county.

Introductory statement from unopposed school board incumbent Dick Potter

By Evan Smith

Shoreline School Board member Dick Potter is one of three Shoreline School board incumbents running unopposed on the Nov. 3 general-election ballot.

Dick Potter

Potter has sent this statement introducing himself to voters. Here is his statement:

Shoreline School Board, Position 5

Dick Potter

Schools are an investment in our children – our future. Our students deserve the best education we can provide. Our state’s founders recognized this when they wrote our Constitution, making public education the “paramount duty” of the state.

I believe that elected officials should be evaluated and held accountable for their service and how well they meet their commitments. Nobody is entitled to hold a public office -- they must earn it and keep earning it. Here are some highlights of our many achievements during my two terms as a Board member:

* Student test scores are up.
* We started offering All-Day Kindergarten for all.
* Communication between the District and community has improved significantly.
* We have implemented software to track student progress so no student falls behind.
* New high school software (Naviance) guides students’ course and post-graduation planning.

* We’ve replaced both high schools within budget. (Thanks to all of our community for supporting our schools, especially through the depths of the recession!).
* We have upgraded many school facilities and fields.
* The Math curriculum was completely overhauled.

* Our budget has recovered despite (the) continued underfunding of education by the state.

* Our teachers and schools have received many recognition awards for excellence.

* We hired a new Superintendent.

I am a Shoreline resident of 32 years with one Shorecrest student and one Shorecrest graduate.

To learn more please see my website, Vote4Potter.com. I welcome your input and feedback. Let’s work together to make Shoreline the premier school district in the state.

Letter to the Editor: Former opponents unite to support Richey and Scully for Shoreline City Council

To the Editor:

Many of you know that we, Patty Hale and Janet Way are two women who have been longtime Ridgecrest residents, observers of local politics, participants in our neighborhood, and at times opponents. We both served on the Shoreline Parks Board and Janet is a former councilmember.

But this year, we are united in agreement on a crucial issue for voters to consider. Which City Council candidates truly want to do the right thing to preserve our way of life, our quiet, residential neighborhoods and still look for innovative and traditional ideas to preserve the best of Shoreline, while moving forward?

We believe the two Shoreline City Council candidates who will stand up for our values best are, Lorn Richey and Keith Scully.

They understand that the huge rezone that Council adopted is completely out of scale for our City.

They understand that the Council did not listen to the community in that process.

They understand that in order to upzone areas such as Ridgecrest, North City, Parkwood or Richmond Beach, the city needed to do more preparation on how to pay for infrastructure, and on much better outreach to the public.

They understand that this community is already the FIFTH densest in the state and that we do NOT need to add 10 -20,000 more residents for Light Rail or Transit-Oriented Station areas.

They understand that in order to truly support our good schools, parks and small businesses, Shoreline needs to grow gradually and the Council needs to respect our neighborhoods and the people who live there.

Lorn Richey and Keith Scully are outstanding Council candidates. We urge your support and your vote for both of them by November 3rd. Please remember to sign your ballot and drop it in the mail to postmark by the November 3rd deadline.

Short detour coming to Burke-Gilman Trail in Lake Forest Park for hazardous tree removal

Over two weeks beginning October 26, King County Parks will remove 40 dying and unsafe Lombardy Poplars and replace them with more suitable trees.

Beginning October 26, King County Parks will set up temporary detours around segments of the Burke-Gilman Trail in Lake Forest Park while crews begin removing 40 hazardous Lombardy Poplar trees.

The hazardous trees are located along the Burke-Gilman Trail between Ballinger Way NE and NE 165th Street in Lake Forest Park. After a portion of one of the trees fell onto State Route 522 during an August windstorm, King County Parks investigated other poplars along this stretch of trail. The 40 trees were assessed as dying and a threat to public safety.

The trailside trees will be replaced later this year at a ratio of 1:1 with tree species that are more suitable to the location.

The temporary closure will take place mid-day Monday through Friday and last for two work weeks. The trail is expected to be open in the evenings, with closings lasting from 7am to 3:30pm. There are two trail segments that will be affected. To minimize impacts to adjoining neighborhoods, only one trail section will be closed at a time.

One detour will start at NE 165th Street and route trail users along Beach Drive NE before rejoining the trail at NE 170th Street. The other detour will start at Brentwood Place NE and route trail users along NE 171st Street before rejoining the trail at NE 170th Street.

King County Parks is working with the City of Lake Forest Park and is doing outreach to neighbors to let them know about the detours. King County Parks has obtained a tree permit from the city and has hired a professional tree contractor to perform the work.

Rat City to change name of practice space, calling for community input

Attention local derby fans and community members — Rat City Rollergirls (RCRG) wants to return the Rat’s Nest to you, the people.

The RCRG would like to give the community the opportunity to vote on the new name of the derby-practice space it maintains in Shoreline, which is currently named the Rat’s Nest.

In 500 words or fewer, tell RCRG why you would choose one of the following names:
  • Seattle Roller Derby Center
  • Shoreline Roller Derby Center
  • Washington Roller Derby Center
Submissions should be sent here no later than November 20 and the results will be announced before the December 5 RCRG bout.

The Rat’s Nest is not only used by RCRG, but various other leagues such as Puget Sound Outcasts, Jet City Rollergirls, Seattle Derby Brats, and Potential Fresh Meat.

After RCRG moved from its original practice space in Ballard to the current space located at 19022 Aurora Ave N in Shoreline, the name from Ballard — the Rat’s Nest — stuck out of habit.

However, RCRG no longer feels the name represents what the space has become — a hub for premiere roller derby throughout King, Snohomish and Pierce counties.

RCRG skaters whittled down a long list of submissions in order to present the public with three choices to select from. The name change is part of Rat City’s recent effort to revitalize its community-care program, as well as strengthen relationships with its derby brothers and sisters.

The Rat City Rollergirls (RCRG) is Seattle’s premiere all-female, flat-track roller derby league. RCRG is composed of about 80 active skaters and many more retired skaters who are still involved. The skaters are divided among four home teams, as well as the All Stars and Competitive Rat Lab teams. It is Rat City’s mission to maintain a competitive athletic program, promote the sport of roller derby, provide quality sports entertainment for fans, and make a positive impact in the community.

Shoreline CC strengthens relationships with the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission in campus visit

On Friday, October 9, President Cheryl Roberts, Vice President Bob Francis, Executive Director of International Education Diana Sampson and members of Shoreline’s International Education and ESL departments welcomed officials from the Saudi Arabian Cultural Mission (SACM) and their advisors to campus.

Created by the Saudi government in 1951, SACM administers programs and policies to meet the educational and cultural needs of Saudis studying in the United States, while also implementing rules of the King Abdullah Scholarship Program (KASP), which provides Saudi students with the opportunity to attend foreign universities using federal funding.

The visit showcased Shoreline Community College’s excellent programs, faculty and student services to SACM. A Q+A session included in the visit also helped facilitate a better understanding of how to ensure optimal cooperation between the two organizations in the face of recent policy changes related to the scholarship.

This is the first time SACM officials have visited Shoreline’s campus. Samira Pardanani, Director of International Admissions and Student Services at Shoreline, said “The meeting was very positive and productive, and given the changing landscape, it was a great first step to help them better understand the excellent educational opportunity we offer their students here at Shoreline.”

Several of Shoreline’s current students from Saudi Arabia also helped welcome the SACM to campus, giving the officials a campus tour and a glowing review of Shoreline Community College.

This Wonderful Life - a one-man tour de force at Aurora Theatre Company

Chris Carwithen plays George Bailey
and everyone else!
Aurora Theatre Company presents "THIS WONDERFUL LIFE" November 12-28 at the Firdale Village Theatre.
One wonderful actor plays 36 wonderful characters in a clever and loving adaptation of the classic Frank Capra film, "It's a Wonderful Life."

Start the holidays with this exciting re-imagined version of the classic film presented by Aurora Theatre Company. Regarded as a holiday classic around the world, Frank Capra’s film “It’s a Wonderful Life” is based on Phillip Van Doren Stern’s 1939 short story “The Greatest Gift.” The film was released in 1946 starring Jimmy Stewart and the rest is cinematic history.

The story unfolds on Christmas Eve when George Bailey fears that he has failed his family, his friends and his community. In despair, he considers suicide until Clarence, a dotty angel-in-waiting, shows him how bleak the world would have been if he’d never lived. The story of George Bailey’s journey from frustration to despair to understanding and happiness is one that celebrates the American ideal of community. The way to find value in this world as individuals is by looking more closely at the people who pass through our lives: our family, our friends, our town.

This one man tour-de-force production offers a new theatrical twist on this beloved holiday tale. In addition to playing all the people in Bedford Falls, actor Chris Carwithen provides amusing commentary on George Bailey’s journey to discover that the actions of one person really can make a difference in the world. This humorous adaptation celebrates the warmth of the season and the belief that hard work, fair play and love of one’s family and community it truly its own “wonderful” reward.

With a script by Steve Murray and directed by Scott Charles Francis, the show lasts approximately 80 minutes, with no intermission. ATC's first non-summer/non-musical production will take place at Firdale Village Theatre- an intimate 90 seat theatre - just across the street from Shoreline in Edmonds.

Aurora Theatre Company will be collecting non-perishable food items at each performance of "This Wonderful Life." These items will be donated to Food Lifeline. Please consider bringing your donations when you attend your performance.

November 12-28, 2015 Thursday – Saturday evenings at 8:00pm and Saturday November 28 at 2:00pm. No performance on Thanksgiving.

Tickets: $25.00 Available online

SmileMobile provides service at large-scale, free clinic at Seattle's Key Arena

100 dental stations have been set up
Photo courtesy Seattle-King County Public Health

Hundreds will gather at KeyArena on each of the four days of free dental, medical, and vision care which began Thursday and will run through the weekend (October 22 - 25.)

The SmileMobile, a modern, mobile dental clinic that cares for underserved children throughout the state, will be at KeyArena in Seattle October 22-25 to provide free dental care at the Seattle/King County Clinic for people of all ages.

Due to the lack of dental access for thousands of Washingtonians, the SmileMobile team and hundreds of other dental volunteers will perform a variety of services, including teeth cleanings, tooth extractions, fillings, crowns and root canals.

Seattle/King County Clinic organizers anticipate more than 100 health care organizations and thousands of licensed health care professionals and support volunteers will treat close to 4,000 people Thursday through Sunday.

“Too many people in our state cannot access dental care, even though many are covered under Apple Health/Medicaid,” said Laura Smith, President and CEO of the Washington Dental Service Foundation, which operates the SmileMobile. “The Seattle/King County Clinic will provide one-time access for thousands, but long-term access solutions are needed.”

This is the second year of the Seattle/King County Clinic, which aims to fill unmet needs and gaps in health care for people who otherwise cannot afford or access care.

Services include dental exams, medical tests and prescription eyeglasses.

Last year, the Seattle/King County Clinic served close to 3,300 residents throughout the state, with more than 1,700 seeking dental care. Of the people who sought dental treatment, 70 percent reported that it had been more than a year since they last saw a dentist.

The SmileMobile is funded and staffed through a partnership of Delta Dental of Washington and the Washington Dental Service Foundation.

Seattle/King County Clinic organizers will distribute admission tickets beginning at 5am each day at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall, 301 Mercer St. Tickets are limited and care is provided first come, first served.

Introductory statement from Shoreline Fire commission candidate Dan Setterberg

By Evan Smith

Shoreline Fire District challenger Dan Setterberg faces incumbent Commissioner Rod Heivilin in the November 3 general election. Setterberg recently sent a statement introducing himself to voters. We posted Heivilin’s statement Sunday.

Find Heivilin’s statement here

Dan Setterberg

Dan Setterberg

I have lived in the same house in Shoreline since 1983. In 1972, I joined the Seattle Fire Department from which I retired in 1999 after 27 years of service, working the majority of my time in the University District. Upon retirement, I became a school-bus driver for the Shoreline School District in addition to teaching the fire safety program at Shorewood High School from 2008-2012. I still drive the school bus today because it provides me with great satisfaction and allows me to stay connected to my community.

Staying connected and giving back to Shoreline, which has given so much to my family, and me is one of the main reasons I would like to serve on the Shoreline Fire Department’s Board of Commissioners. My emergency management experience, combined with my investment in and dedication to Shoreline, makes me very well qualified to serve as Fire Commissioner.

Among my many interests are watching sports and volunteer coaching for Richmond Junior Football and Little League. I also love spending time with my family, which includes my wife, Maureen Setterberg, a special education teacher at Shorewood High School, and our two sons, Seth and Nick, now both officers in the U.S. Air Force.

I look forward to the opportunity to serve and give back to my community.

I can be reached at: setterberg4fire@comcast.net

City receives planning award for 185th Street Station Subarea Plan

Final 185th zoning changes
Go to this link for an interaction version

The Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA) and the Planning Association of Washington (PAW) jointly awarded the City its Honor Award for the City’s 185th Street Light Rail Station Subarea Plan. Award jurists deemed the Subarea Plan to be an “outstanding example of good planning in Washington.”

Every year, PAW and APA jointly honor outstanding contributions to the field of planning in Washington. Jurists identified the broad-based public involvement process, the phased zoning, the different housing options, and how the Subarea Plan worked with the City’s overall Comprehensive Plan as some of the reasons why the 185th Street Station Subarea Plan stood out. Jurists also stated that the plan would be seen as an example for other jurisdictions across the state in how to tackle difficult decisions around growth over the next twenty years.

Earlier this year, the City received an award from the Housing Development Consortium of Seattle-King County for its leadership in supporting affordable housing opportunities in Shoreline. The award recognized the City’s use of incentive zoning and impact fee exemptions for affordable housing in the 185th Street Station Subarea Plan.

To learn more about the 185th Street Light Rail Station Subarea Plan visit the City website.
