Special weather statement from National Weather Service

The National Weather Service of Seattle has issued a special weather statement at 2:14 PM PST, Wednesday January 11th, 2012.

This statement covered the entire Western Washington region, including Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.

  • A cold front is expected to bring colder temperatures and a chance of lowland snow this weekend.
  • A series of active storm systems next week will bring periods of winter weather to Western Washington.

A strong cold front is forecast to move into Western Washington later Saturday, bring in a colder air mass which will linger into Monday. This will bring snow levels to near 500 feet Saturday night and potentially to sea-level Sunday morning. Hit or miss showers will develop with the possibility of a Puget Sound Convergence zone setting up. Accumulations are possible, up to 6 inches or more if we end up under the convergence zone band. It is too early to tell right now.

From Tuesday onward a series of storms will move across the area bringing a possibility of wintery weather. Depending on the exact track of these systems, will dictate how much cold air comes down into our area, thus dictating how much falls as snow, rain, or a mix. Due to the current uncertainty no winter watches, or advisories have been issued at this time. I will continue to post updates on twitter and in my blog as this develops, I will also send more updates to Shoreline Area News if there are any significant changes.
