Former Loyola Marymount star Bo Kimble helping out at Shoreline CC

Steve Kelley, Seattle Times staff columnist, has a story about former basketball staff Bo Kimble volunteering with the Shoreline Community College basketball program at the invitation of coach Greg Turcott.

Athletic Director Doug Palmer says that the Dolphins are being tutored by Bo Kimble, the former #8 pick in the NBA draft who is in town to work with SCC on the “Fast-Break” offense that Kimble ran at Loyola Marymount University in the late 1980’s.

Part of Steve's article:
"That March run by Loyola Marymount in the 1990 tournament remains one of the most remarkable journeys in the history of the game. Playing without Gathers, the Lions beat New Mexico State, beat defending champion Michigan and powerful Alabama.
"Playing a high-speed game that seemed to defy all basketball logic, Loyola Marymount averaged 106 points in its four tournament games and got all the way to the West Region final before losing to eventual national champion UNLV.
'Twenty-one years later, Kimble, who led the nation in scoring in 1990, averaging 35.3 points, is back in basketball, helping Shoreline coach Greg Turcott revive what they call 'The System.'"

Planning for the 2012 Kenmore Art Show

By Charlene Collins Freeman

After 13 years of dedication, vision and hard work, Roland Lindstrom resigned from his position as Chairman of the Kenmore Art Show. Jo Ann Evans took on the challenge of finding a steering committee to move the Kenmore Art Show forward. She teamed with Dave Maehren and put together a fantastic team of volunteers: Staci Adman, Marella Alejandrino, Mara Bohman, Tom Traeger and Sara Hayashi. The committee has been busy and presented a proposal for a new direction for the Kenmore Art Show to the Arts of Kenmore Board on January 13. It was enthusiastically and unanimously approved.

We are thrilled to announce that in 2012 the Kenmore Art Show will be held at Bastyr University from June 20th through June 24th. More details will follow in the next months. We are so grateful to this team of volunteers and to Bastyr University for the support and enthusiasm they have shown for the Kenmore Art Show! Thank you!

Now the real work begins as we start pulling together the details of the show. If you are interested in joining this energetic and visionary committee of volunteers, please contact Jo Ann Evans. This is a great opportunity for all who are interested in fostering the arts in Kenmore!
"When many people each do a little, we can all accomplish much!"

Local voters rejected Eyman tolling initiative by far greater margin than State as a whole

By Evan Smith
Contributing Writer

Local voters turned down the Tim-Eyman-sponsored tolling initiative on the Nov 8 general-election ballot by a far greater margin than the State as a whole, according to figures that the secretary of state’s office released Tuesday.

Initiative 1125 failed by a statewide vote of 53 percent to 47 percent.

Voters in the King County part of the 32nd Legislative District, including Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Kenmore and the outskirts of Kirkland, rejected Initiative 1125 by a 64 percent to 36 percent margin.

The countywide rejection rate was a little less than 64 percent.

The initiative would have required that the Legislature, rather than the State transportation commission, set tolls, prohibited the use of tolls from one road or bridge from being used for another project, and prohibited variable tolling.
