Red Sky Gallery announces special October 10th welcome to VSP Jewelry artist, YeeMan Lee

Wednesday, October 7, 2020

YeeMan Lee of VSP Jewelry has found a home at the Red Sky Gallery
She briefly removed her mask for the photo by Donna Hawkey

By Donna Hawkey

Join Red Sky Gallery owner Laura Michaelson as she welcomes YeeMan Lee back to the Lake Forest Park Town Center on Saturday, October 10, 2020, from noon to 4:00pm.

YeeMan is an established jewelry artist with over thirty years of experience. Laura explains the relationship as one inspired by “out of the box thinking,” needed in today’s economics.

VSP Jewelry Design Gallery was an established business at the Town Center for 31 years but closed recently due to COVID-19 shutdowns. (See the previous article).

YeeMan says, “This new relationship with Red Sky Gallery allows me to get back into jewelry design, which is my first love. This gallery is a beautiful space, fine art surrounds me and inspires me all day.”

YeeMan will be able to take in jewelry repairs for drop-off, too. She plans to be on-site for jewelry design appointments every Monday and Tuesday. (appointments are recommended). Other appointment days are always available upon request.

Jewelry and watch repairs can be dropped off at the Red Sky Gallery counter during any of their daily hours, currently Monday through Saturday from noon to 4:00pm. Red Sky Gallery hours will be extended for the fall and winter holiday season.

On October 10th, YeeMan plans to highlight the October Opal gemstone. She will have drawings for Opal gemstones for those attending. She plans to highlight each month's gemstone in some way.

Please plan to stop by and welcome YeeMan back to Lake Forest Park during the opening reception this Saturday, October 10th, from noon to 4:00pm.

Later that day at Red Sky Gallery, Laura is holding an opening reception for another artist, Debbie Bianchi, from 4:00-7:00pm.

“Debbie is a self- taught Seattle painter who enjoys the opportunity to share her perspective of what she sees as beauty. With her distinctive style specializing in birds and blossoms, she seeks to merge abstraction with representational images in many layers of color and shape.”

Red Sky Gallery photo by Laura Michaelson

Red Sky Gallery is a large open space; however, masks and social distancing measures will be used for both receptions.

Laura says,” I want to make these fun and safe events for everyone. I hope many in the community can join in with me to celebrate these two fine artists!”

The Red Sky Gallery is located on the upper level of the Lake Forest Park Town Center, between Two Trading Tigers and Mad Cow Yarn, intersection Bothell and Ballinger Way NE.

Laura has been working hard to keep the gallery going; she just got it started when COVID-19 hit. (See previous article)

Red Sky Gallery: A gallery and gift store located in the Lake Forest Park Town Center

Paintings fill the walls at Red Sky
Red Sky Gallery: A gallery and gift store
Located in the Lake Forest Park Town Center

With holiday hours including Christmas Eve!

By Donna Hawkey

Have you seen the 50 local artists' work at Red Sky Gallery? The gallery is loaded with handmade holiday gifts in every price range. There's even an adorable tiny stocking stuffer for $6!

It's a gallery foremost, but it's like going to a mini art museum and gift shop in one, so every art and jewelry piece, including every art display, is exquisite.

And the gallery has high ceilings and is in a large open-airy space with all the Covid safety protocols in place.

It's an unusual and beautiful collection chosen by Red Sky Gallery owner Laura Nevada Michaelson that shows she has a passion for art, for local artists, and hard work.

The range of gifts is extensive, such as fine art paintings that invigorate the spirits with images of vivid color or can calm the being with serene scenes of nature.

There's pottery with radiant glazes with textured imprints or carved leaves that will make a designer statement in your home.

And charming collage art cards by Lake Forest Park resident and recent author Luanne Brown with an excellent design selection to choose from.

A bright rainbow color display of unisex handcrafted leather belts caught my attention, and I found out they are made by a Lake Forest Park resident, Tony Tomassi.

Handcrafted leather belts by
Tony Tomassi
They are priced under $40. Original artisan purses and lovely totes line a display right near the belts, along with a stunning choice of scarves.

In another area, there's an array of jewelry such as earrings designed in the memory of Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s famous lace collar. There are heirloom necklaces available to luxuriate in, and all in various price ranges, too.

These upcycled journals are craftsmanship durable to keep your memories and thoughts intact for decades.

And check out the designer mugs and jigsaw puzzles. There's even jewelry and watch repair on-site Monday and Tuesday, but you can drop-off repairs any day the gallery is open.

It's essential to think about how we can help our local businesses and neighbors flourish in Lake Forest Park and beyond at this holiday time, especially when you have a place to shop that will perk you up, such as the Red Sky Gallery.

Journals
After you visit there, you may want to stop at Vulpine Taproom and appetizers located right next door and celebrate this wonderful time of year!

How are they doing? Red Sky Gallery

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Laura Michaelson had just established her beautiful art gallery in Town Center when she had to shut it down. Reporter Luanne Brown reached out to find out how she was coping.

From Laura Michaelson, Red Sky Gallery

Red Sky Gallery has used Etsy as an online store, where we have been putting art on products like masks, mugs, t-shirts and sweatshirts. See Etsy shop

Our website Red Sky Galleries has up to date available art and wearable art such as jewelry, scarfs, pottery and glassware for sale for shipping or curbside pick-up.

We are promoting sales on Facebook, and Instagram.

Artists are offering sales on items from paintings to jewelry just in time for Mother’s day. We take the orders over the phone and email and ship or set up a curbside pick-up.

We were not given any rent forgiveness and the loan lines are impossible. So sales help pay the basic bills and if we have any extra, which we haven’t yet, we are saving for the next month.

I am not taking any personal income from the gallery, to keep the doors open. I am optimistic for the future of the gallery. We hope to provide a place for people to go who usually go to art festivals etc.

This is has been a life long and dream and I will fight hard to keep this gallery going.  It means the world to me.

Red Sky Gallery is located on the upper level of Town Center, Lake Forest Park, intersection Bothell and Ballinger Way NE.

Red Sky Gallery grand opening Saturday in Lake Forest Park

Thursday, September 19, 2019

Paintings on the wall. Jewelry in and on the cabinets,
made of metal, semi-precious stones, wood

By Diane Hettrick
Photos by Steven H. Robinson

The Red Sky Gallery will hold its Grand Opening on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 5 to 9pm at its location on the upper level wing of Town Center in Lake Forest Park at the intersection of Bothell and Ballinger Way NE.

Large Debbie Tomassi paintings line this wall

Red Sky is a large, open space with a lofty ceiling and bright, white walls filled with art works by local artists.

Debbie Tomassi, Marjorie Thompson, Kathy Collins, and Blanche Niznik are familiar names - artists who live in Lake Forest Park. There are a dozen more in the gallery.

All of the artists will be at the Grand Opening, as well as a jazz duo, wine, cheese, and chocolate from The Chocolate Man.

Karen Dedrickson will demonstrate sumi-e technique
at the grand opening - black ink on white paper

Featured artist Karen Dedrickson will demonstrate the sumi-e Japanese art style of black ink on paper.

Owner Laura Michaelson is not an artist herself. She had a professional career in Leadership Development. Microsoft was her last client.

She had her 50th birthday and something clicked for her. "I felt free. I felt like I had paid my dues and now I could do something I really wanted to do." And that something was an art gallery.

She had remodeled her kitchen by herself, so had no qualms about taking down a wall to combine two spaces at Town Center. She laid the flooring and built a set of display boxes. She painted, and created moveable divider walls.

There is a special gift shop section as well as many small pieces of art and several jewelry artists.

"We have a number of pieces in the affordable price range, suitable for gifts."

Leather bracelets with semi-precious stones. Gold and black metal earrings. Beautiful tiny, painted sky scenes. Even a smooth, turned wood jar and a wooden box holding kitchen utensils.

There are a lot of birds in the paintings and ravens are a frequent theme.

Red Sky had a soft opening six weeks ago and already looks different from when it was photographed for this article. Pieces sell and are replaced with new ones. The Gallery is slightly different each day.

Laura has already connected with all the shops alongside hers, and a few downstairs like The Chocolate Man.

"Community is important," she said, "and this is a wonderful community." The business owners have tentative plans for events, using Laura's large space.

Now she wants to reach outside the shops and use art as a vehicle for creating community. "We need this now to bring out beauty and to bring people together."
