The Shoreline Community College Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team battled hard on Tuesday night in the SCC Gym, but still dropped a 3-0 match to Bellevue College, 25-23, 25-19 and 29-27.

SCC could have won either the first or third set, as both games were close throughout and the SCC served 3 times with set point in their favor for the 3rd set, but Bellevue hung tough and showed why they are region champs in 2012 to hold off SCC and win the match.

SCC was lead by Emily Denim with 16 kills on the night followed by Arianna Garcia with 14. Jalyn Anderson had 41 assists from her setter position.

SCC's lone sophomore, Laruen Deatrick was honored before the match and she led the Dolphins in digs with 17 on the match.

Both Shoreline and Bellevue advance to the NWAACC Volleyball Championship next week at Mt. Hood Community College in Oregon. SCC finished third in the NWAACC Northern Region behind Bellevue and Olympic Colleges who tied for first place.

SCC finished the regular season at 14-18 overall, but 8-4 in the region. Bellevue is 27-9 overall and 11-1 in the region.

The Dolphins will face Green River Community College next Thursday at the NWAACC Championship at 4:30pm in the opening round. GRCC finished 2nd in the NWAACC Western Division.

Shoreline Community College clinches another road win

Happy Dance!

October 31, the Shoreline Community College Volleyball team made the trip to Whatcom Community College and rallied to win in five very close sets at Orca Pavilion.

Unexpectedly SCC was without their only Sophomore and the leader of the team, Lauren Deatrick. Deatrick normally starts as an outside hitter for the Dolphins. Due to an irritation of an injury during warm-ups she was on the bench.

This was not enough to bring the Dolphins down. Sierra Ernst, who started for Deatrick, came away with six aces for the night. Arianna Garcia and Shawna Pung were both hitting over 300.00.  Everyone on the Dolphin team stepped up and made a contribution that provided the team with yet another big road win.

After the game SCC's Co- Head Coach Mark West stated, "I am very much impressed with this year's team. They just continue to beat the odds."

SCC will now head home to finish out their regular season. The Dolphins played Everett November 1, then Bellevue for Lauren Deatrick's Sophmore Night on Tuesday, November 6 at 7pm. Be sure to be at the SCC Gym to cheer on the Dolphins as they continue to beat the odds.

Shoreline Community College builds momentum with 3-0 win over Everett Community College

The Shoreline Community College Dolphin Volleyball team took the victory away from the Everett Community College Trojans tonight. The Dolphins stepped onto the floor ready to go and never released. Winning in three quick sets the Dolphins held control of the game all the way through. You could see the continued enthusiasm as they won sets 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.

“The girls had fun tonight. They added enthusiasm and vigor to the victory,” said Shoreline Coach Mark West.

Lauren Deatrick the team’s team captain and only sophomore joined the team on the floor after sitting multiple games due to injuries. She was definitely strong and ready to play tonight. Deatrick came back with 12 kills, 8 digs, 2 aces and hit .600.

It was not just Deatrick that was hitting well tonight. The team was hitting .337. That is the best the Dolphins have hit all season. The entire Shoreline team was playing strong. Shawna Pung came away with 6 kills and hit .375 and Jalyn Anderson had 37 assists on the night. Elena Estrada came away with one of her biggest nights of the season playing on the opposite side of the court than her regular position. Estrada had 3 kills and hit .1000.

The team is building up momentum as they head into the end of regular season and prepare for the NWAACC Championships. Shoreline has their last regular season game and sophomore night at Dolphin Gym on Tuesday, November 6th at 7:00pm.

Shoreline drops two in Dorian Harris Halloween Classic pool play

The Shoreline Community College Dolphin Volleyball Team did not get the start they were hoping to in the Dorian Harris Halloween Classic in Mt. Hood, Oregon. The Dolphins dropped both matches in pool play.

The first game of the day was against Walla Walla. Shoreline could not seem to keep up with the Warriors who are ranked 2nd in the Eastern Region. This sophomore studded team has only lost two region games this year.

Shoreline's second loss of the day came from Chemeketa whom the Dolphins had previously beaten in the Shoreline Crossover Tournament a few weeks ago. This was a very close match.

Shoreline pushes on and still has a chance to take home the Champions Trophy. The Dolphins are currently taking on Whatcom. Earlier in the season the Dolphins defeated Whatcom but we will see later how they match up today. Stay posted with all the tournament results at the NWAACC Volleyball results page.

Shoreline Community College volleyball pulls off a close win at Edmonds Community College

Wednesday was another solid performance for SCC Dolphin Volleyball against Edmonds Community College. In the tight match up SCC pulled out a win the four sets. Starting with very solid serving from Freshman players Elena Estrada with 4 straight points at a critical part of the first set. Later in the second set Emily Dunham hit 7 straight points.

However, it was the off the bench play of Sierra Ernst serving and hitting that provided the emotional and mental performance that made the Dolphins a complete team. Ernst played for the team Captain and only Sophomore Lauren Deatrick who was sick. Although Deatrick was at the match cheering for her teammates could not play nor has she been able to practice the last 3 days.

"It is a huge thing to come into a game and play without pressure and have fun like Sierra did tonight, she is a real big part of our success this year and especially tonight," says Shoreline Community College Assistant Coach Mark West.

Shoreline now has a record of 11-14 and is looking strong for the upcoming NWAACC Volleyball Conference Championship. This weekend the Dolphins will be traveling to Mt. Hood Oregon for the Annual Dorian Harris Halloween Classic. Their first game will be on Friday, October 26th at 2pm against Walla Walla.

Shorecrest fighting for volleyball tournament bid in final home match Wednesday

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

The Shorecrest volleyball team finishes its regular season with a Wednesday home match with Mountlake Terrace in a meeting that would give the winner a chance to advance to the Northwest District 3A tournament.

The Scots and Hawks are tied for fourth in the Western Conference 4A South with 1-6 division records. Shorecrest lost at Mountlake Terrace early in the season but later pulled into a tie with a victory over Glacier Peak.

The top three teams in the Wesco 3A North and South divisions qualify for the eight-team District tournament, along with two teams from among the No. 4 teams from the two Wesco divisions and Ferndale of the Northwest 3A/2A/1A Conference, with the top two based on league records.
Since Ferndale had a 4-7 Northwest Conference record going into a final NWC match with Bellingham, Ferndale will get one of the District berths.

The winner of the Shorecrest match with Mountlake Terrace will have a 2-6 Wesco South record. If Wesco 3A North No. 4 Marysville-Pilchuck loses its final match at Oak Harbor Wednesday, the Tomahawks also would have a 2-6 record.

In basketball or soccer, in which teams play the teams in their own division twice and teams in the other division once, Shorecrest's early-season loss to Marysville-Pilchuck would act as a tiebreaker, but since the match was non-league, a Shorecrest victory and Marysville-Pilchuck loss may lead to a playoff for the last tournament spot.

The District tournament opens Oct. 30, with play at Glacier Peak and Marysvillle-Pilchuck high sdhools. It continues Nov. 1 at Glacier Peak. The top three teams in the District qualify for the State tournament Nov. 9-10 at Saint Martin's University and Timberline High School both in Lacy, north of Olympia.

Shorecrest takes a 3-10 overall record into the match with Mountlake Terrace (7-6) at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Shorecrest High School. Junior-varsity and C-team matches are scheduled for 5:15.

The Shorecrest varsity is coming off a 3-0 loss to Shorewood Oct. 17.

In Shorecrest’s loss at Shorewood, Shorewood won by game scores of 25-20, 25-9 and 25-21. Stephanie Taylor had 8 kills for the Scots; teammate Diana Conwell had 7 kills; Lauren Rutter had 19 assists; and Clarisse Haines had 11 digs. For Shorewood, Stephanie Vollbrecht had 7 kills, 3 blocks and 3 aces; Monica Postor had 7 kills; 14 digs and 3 aces; and Marianne Kellogg had 19 assists.

The Scot junior varsity has a 0-7 Wesco 3A south record (2-11 overall) after a 3-0 loss to Shorewood last week.

The Shorecrest "C" team has a 1-6 Wesco 3A South record (2-11 overall) after a 2-1 victory over Shorewood.
