SCC Beats Bellevue College For NWAACC Northern Region Volleyball Crown

The Lady Dolphins dropped the opening set of the match to Bellevue College on Tuesday night in the BC Gym, but then came storming back to win three straight games to the take the NWAACC Northern Region Championship in impressive fashion, 3 games to 1, over Bellevue and win the region with a 8-2 record. Both teams had entered the final game of the regular season with 7-2 region records.

Sophomores Lisa Day and Hannah Stoeve led SCC with 15 kills each while freshman Jazmyn Ray added 14. Sophomore Setter Christine Jensen had 49 assists.

SCC is 23-10 overall and now will be one of the four #1 Seeds at the NWAACC Volleyball Championship next week in Mt. Hood, Oregon. Bellevue falls to 20-11 on the season and 7-3 in the region.

Shoreline will face Yakima Valley Community College on November 17th at 11:30 AM in the first round of the NWAACC Volleyball Championship.

Shorewood volleyball team finishes season with 7-9 record after two losses in Northwest District tournament

The Shorewood volleyball team finished its season with a 7-9 record after losing two matches in the Northwest District 3A tournament at Glacier Peak High School Monday, Oct. 31.

The Thunderbirds opened tournament play with a 3-0 loss to Meadowdale.

The Seattle Times ranks Meadowdale sixth among State 3A teams.

Meadowdale went on to win its semifinal match and advance to the championship match with Lynnwood Saturday. The winner advances to the State 3A tournament Nov. 11-12 at St. Martin’s University in Lacey. The Meadowdale-Lynnwood loser then plays for the District’s No. 2 berth in the State tournament against the winner of a match between Everett and Glacier Peak.

Shorewood was eliminated from the tournament Monday night after a 3-1 loss to Mount Vernon. Everett eliminated Mount Vernon Thursday.

In Shorewood’s 3-0 loss to Meadowdale, the Mavericks won with game scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-16. Marianne Kellogg had 19 assists and nine digs and Molly Whipple had eight kills for the Thunderbirds.

In Shorewood’s 3-1 loss to Mount Vernon, the game scores were 25-17, 18-25, 25-19 and 25-13. Dana Brindle had 20 digs, Madison Welsh had nine kills and 18 digs, Marianne Kellogg had 31 assists and Stephanie Vollbrecht had seven kills and three blocks for the Thunderbirds.

The Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team pounded Everett CC on Friday night in Everett, 25-8, 25-18, 25-10. Lisa Day had 11 kills and Hannah Stoeve had 10 to led SCC.

SCC is now 22-10 on the season and 7-2 in the NWAACC Northern Region. Bellevue College lost to Olympic College on Friday as well and dropped their region record to 7-2 too. SCC plays Bellevue on Tuesday night at Bellevue, with the winner taking the Northern Region crown and a #1 seed at the NWAACC Championship.

SCC Volleyball Ranked 6th In the NWAACC

After a great showing at the Mt. Hood Tournament last weekend, the SCC Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team moved from being unranked to 6th in the NWAACC Volleyball Poll. Mt. Hood who beat SCC in the finals of the Mt. Hood Tournament in five games is ranked #1. Linn-Benton who SCC beat 2 out of 3 matches last weekend is #5.

Bellevue, who SCC faces on Tuesday for the NWAACC Northern Region Championship is ranked 8th. The SCC/Bellevue match is Tuesday night at 7:00 PM at Bellevue College.

Whatcom Beats SCC Volleyball 3-2

A sluggish Shoreline CC Volleyball team dropped a match to Whatcom CC on Wednesday night in the SCC Gym, 3-2, as SCC still looked tired from its long weekend marathon tournament at Mt. Hood last Friday and Saturday.

SCC won the opening set of the match 25-20, but WCC came right back to win the second match 25-17. SCC took control of the match by coming back to win the third game, 27-25, but Whatcom would not quit and dropped SCC in the 4th set, 25-21. Whatcom jumped out to a quick lead in the 5th and deciding game and SCC could not come back and lost 15-10.

Jazmyn Ray led SCC with 16 kills and Hannah Stoeve had 14. 

Lisa Day added 13 kills with 3 ace serves and Amanda Arnoux rounded out the SCC offense with 12 kills.

SCC is now 21-10 on the season, 6-2 in the NWAACC Northern Region. SCC is in second place in the region and finishes the season on the road, at Everett CC on Friday night and at Bellevue College next Tuesday night.

SCC honored six sophomore players on the night, playing their last home games in SCC gym. Lisa Day, Christine Jenson, Kelly Klebeck, Amanda Arnoux, Hannah Stoeve and Laura Postor are in their last year for SCC after putting together two very successful seasons for SCC.

Lady Dolphin Volleyball has marathon day, finishes 2nd at Mt. Hood tournament

The Shoreline Community College Volleyball Team played 7 matches over two days, 5 matches on Saturday alone at the Mt. Hood Community College Volleyball Tournament (Gresham, Oregon). The Lady Dolphins finished second to the host Mt. Hood CC Saints.

SCC opened tournament with a 5 set victory over Linn-Benton Community College, the #2 ranked team in the NWAACC. SCC won the 5th and deciding game by a score of 16-14. SCC then beat Pierce College 3-1 to end Friday’s action. On the second day Linn-Benton CC gain a bit of revenge, beating SCC 3-1 to send the Dolphins to the loser’s bracket. But then SCC went on a run and beat Clackamas CC 2-1, Chemeketa CC 2-0 and got the final say on Linn-Benton 2-0 to reach the finals of the tournament.

In a class battle, the Lady Dolphins loss 3-2 to Mt. Hood, #3 ranked team in the NWAACC, with the fifth and deciding game going 15-13.

SCC is now 21-9 on the season and 6-1 in the region and has clinched a NWAACC Championship bid already. SCC will return to Mt. Hood Community College on November 17-20 to play in the NWAACC Volleyball Championship, hosted by Mt. Hood. SCC has three regular season games left, playing their final home match this Wednesday night at 7:00 PM against Whatcom Community College.

The SCC squad finishes the regular season on the road, playing at Everett CC on November 4th and then Bellevue College on November 8th. The final match against Bellevue may decide the region championship, as both teams have one region loss.

Shorewood volleyball team tops Shorecrest, 3-0 on Monday

The Shorewood volleyball team topped Shorecrest, 3-0, Monday at Shorecrest in the second meeting of the season between the two teams.

Shorewood had beaten Shorecrest at home, 3-0, Sept. 19.

In the Monday victory, senior Molly Whipple scored 13 kills and five service aces for the Thunderbirds; sophomore Monica Postor had 11 kills and 11 digs; junior Marianne Kellogg had 27 assists; and senior Dana Brindle had 12 digs.

For the Scots, junior Diana Conwell had 10 kills and eight blocks; junior Stephanie Taylor had 16 assists; and sophomore Ivy Boad had three blocks.

Shorecrest won the junior varsity match, 3-0.

The Shorewood “C” team lost at home to King’s, 3-0.

The Thunderbird varsity had defeated Mountlake Terrace, 3-0, Tuesday, Oct. 18, Shorewood won the three games 25-15, 25-16 and 25-23, Postor scored 11 kills for the Thunderbirds; Whipple had six kills and 12 digs; Kellogg had 23 assists; and Brindle had 20 digs.

Shorewood took a 6-5 Wesco 3A record (7-6 overall) into a home match with Lynnwood Wednesday. Lynnwood had a 7-4 Wesco 3A record (8-4 overall) after winning a Tuesday home match from Mountlake Terrace, 3-1.

Shorewood now holds third place in the Wesco 3A South Division ahead of Mountlake Terrace, which has a 5-6 Wesco 3A record (6-7 overall).

Wesco 3A volleyball is divided into two divisions. The North Division consists of Everett, Glacier Peak, Marysville-Getchell and Oak Harbor. The South Division consists of Lynnwood, Meadowdale, Mountlake Terrace, Shorecrest and Shorewood. The top three teams from each division advance to the Northwest District 3A tournament along with the top two 3A teams from the Northwest Conference. Wesco seeding is determined by head to head results against the corresponding schools in each division.

If Shorewood holds third place among Wesco 3A South teams, the Thunderbirds would be the No. 6 Wesco team in the tournament because they lost to Everett, the No. 3 Wesco 3A North team, in late September. As the Wesco No. 6 team, Shorewood would open tournament play against Wesco No. 1 seeded Meadowdale at Glacier Peak.

District tournament play starts Monday, Oct. 31, and continues Nov. 3 and 5, with the top two teams qualifying for the State 3A tournament, Nov. 11-12 at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, just north of Olympia.

The Shorecrest junior varsity finished its season with a 5-7 Wesco 3A record (6-6 overall).
The Shorewood JVs took a 4-7, 5-8 record into their season-ending match with Lynnwood.

The Shorewood “C” team took a 1-7, 3-11 record into its match with Lynnwood.

Shorewood volleyball team heads to District tournament after finishing Wesco season with 3-2 home loss to Lynnwood Wednesday

The Shorewood volleyball team finished its Wesco 3A season with a 3-2 home loss to Lynnwood Wednesday.

The Thunderbirds held on to the third and final Wesco 3A berth in the Northwest District 3A tournament when fourth-place Mountlake Terrace lost Wednesday to first-place Meadowdale, 3-2.

The Thunderbirds enter the District tournament starting Monday along with Meadowdale and Lynnwood from the Wesco 3A South; Oak Harbor, Glacier Peak and Everett from the Wesco 3A North and the top two 3A teams from the Northwest Conference – Ferndale and Mount Vernon.

Shorewood takes a 6-6 Wesco 3A record (7-7 overall) into its first District tournament match against top-seeded Meadowdale (11-1, 13-1) Monday at 5 p.m. at Glacier Peak High School, The winner plays in a 7 p.m. semifinal game against the winner of a game between Glacier Peak and Mount Vernon. The losers of the two 5 p.m. games play in a 7 p.m. elimination game. The tournament continues November 3 and 5, with the top two teams qualifying for the State 3A championships, November 11-12 at Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, just north of Olympia.

In the 3-2 loss to Lynnwood, Shorewood won the first game, 27-25; lost the second and third games; 25-19, 25-20; and won the fourth game 25-17 before losing the deciding fifth game 15-13. Monica Postor scored 21 kills for the Thunderbirds; Maddie Welsh had 13 kills, four blocks and 11 digs; Marianne Kellogg had 29 assists; and Dana Brindle had 23 digs. Lynnwood finished second inn the Wesco 3A South with an 8-4 record (9-4 overall) behind Meadowdale.

In the first round of the District tournament, Shorewood faces a Meadowdale team that defeated the Thunderbirds, 3-0. Sept. 15 at Meadowdale.

Lady Dolphin Volleyball routs Edmonds CC in three straight

The SCC Women's Volleyball Team bounced back from their upset defeat on Friday night against Olympic College to beat rival Edmonds Community College in the three straight sets, 25-9, 25-20 and 25-13, Wednesday night in the SCC Gym.

Shoreline was led by Jazmyn Ray, a freshman from Ingraham High School, who had 11 kills in the match along with solo blocks, followed by Lisa Day with 9 kills and Amanda Arnoux with 8. Setter Christine Jenson had 32 assists along with 3 serving aces.

SCC is now 16-7 overall and 6-1 in the NWAACC Northern Region. SCC travels to Mt. Hood, OR over the weekend to play in the Mt. Hood Community College Volleyball Tournament. Edmonds falls to 2-21 overall and 1-7 in the region.

Hannah Stoeve is the SCC Volleyball Player of the Week:

Stoeve, a sophomore middle blocker from Shorewood High School, had 14 kills on Friday night in a 3-1 upset loss to Olympic College in Bremerton, WA. Hannah hit for .378 average in the match and 3 solo blocks and 4 block assistants.

SCC is now 15-7 on the season and 5-1 in the NWAACC Northern Region. SCC plays Edmonds CC on Wednesday night in the SCC Gym at 7:00 PM.

The Shorecrest and Shorewood volleyball teams meet Monday at 7 p.m. at Shorecrest.
Shorewood has a 5-5 Wesco 3A record (6-6 overall). Shorecrest is 0-11 in the Wesco 3A (1-12 overall).

Junior varsity teams from the two schools meet at 5:15.

The Shorewood "C" team has a 5:30 home match with King's.

SCC Volleyball is upset by Olympic College

The Olympic College Rangers shocked the Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team on Friday night in Bremerton, WA, as they dropped SCC 3 games to 1. SCC had defeated Olympic 3-0 at Shoreline back on October 7th.

SCC lost the first game, 25-23, pounded OC 25-16 in the second game, but was beat badly in the 3rd game themselves, 25-17 and then lost a tough 4th game, 26-24.

Lisa Day led SCC with 20 kills, followed by Hannah Stoeve with 14 kills and Jazmyn Ray with 13. Christine Jenson had 34 assists.

SCC is now 15-7 overall, and 5-1 in the Northern Region, Bellevue College moved a half of a game ahead of SCC in the standings now with a 6-1 record. Olympic improves to 10-18 overall and 4-3 in the region. SCC returns home on Wednesday night to play rival Edmonds Community College at 7:00 PM in the SCC Gym.

Haruka Murakami, a freshmen from Japan, was named the SCC Volleyball Player of the Week for her powerful serves and good back-row play as the SCC Libero player this past week which helped lead SCC to a 5-2 record and included a win over Bellevue College on Wednesday night to put Shoreline in first place in the NWAACC Northern Region with a perfect 5-0 record. SCC also went 4-2 at the NWAACC Crossover Tournament at Bellevue College over the weekend, good for third place.

SCC opens the second half of region play on Friday at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA at 7:00 pm.

The Lady Dolphin Volleyball Team dropped their semi-final match to Bellevue College on Saturday, but bounced back to defeat Chemeketa Community College from Oregon for 3rd place in the eight team tournament. Shoreline finished 3-2 for the weekend, losing to Mt. Hood CC, the tournament champion, and Bellevue.

Against Northern Region rival Bellevue College on Saturday, the match went the full 5 games with the Dolphins winning the 4th game 27-25 to set-up a dramatic fifth game, SCC lost that exciting game 16-14. The 3rd place match against Chemeketa also went five games, with SCC winning the final game, 15-10.

Shoreline had three players named to All-Tournament Team, Lisa Day, a sophomore outside hitter from Ballard High School, Christine Jenson, a sophomore setter from Mountlake Terrace High School and freshman middle hitter, Jazmyn Ray, from Ingraham High School.

SCC is now 15-6 for the season, 5-0 and in first place in the NWAACC Northern Region and will begin the second half of the region schedule on Friday, October 21 at Olympic College in Bremerton, WA.

Shorewood volleyball team falls to Meadowdale 3-0 Thursday

The Shorewood volleyball team fell short to Meadowdale in three straight games Thursday, 14-25, 25-27, 20-25

Molly Whipple had 13 kills and eight digs, Monica Postor had 13 kills and five digs, Madison Welsh had five kills and 17 digs, and Marianne Kellogg had 29 assists for Shorewood.

The loss dropped the Thunderbirds' season record to 4-5 in Wesco 3A play (5-6 overall).

Shorewood plays Saturday in the Monroe Bearcat Invitational Tournament starting at 9 a.m. The Thunderbirds return to Wesco 3A play Tuesday, Oct. 18, with a 7 p.m. match at Mountlake Terrace.

Junior varsity teams from the two schools play at 5:15 with the “C” teams playing at the same time.

SCC Women's Volleyball Sweeps NWAACC Northern Region Awards

The Lady Dolphins Volleyball Team dominated the NWAACC Northern Region Players of the Week Awards for Week 6 of the season. Lisa Day won the Offensive Player of the Week, Christine Jenson won the Setter of Week and Lauren Detrick won the Defensive Player of the Week.

SCC was 2-0 for the week, with victories over Whatcom and Everett Community Colleges, both matches by 3-0 scores. The Lady Dolphins are 11-4 on the season, 4-0 in the NWAACC Northern Region.

Shorewood volleyball team drops record to .500 with Tuesday home loss to Glacier Peak

The Shorewood volleyball team dropped its record to 4-4 in Wesco 3A play (5-5 overall) when the Thunderbirds lost to Glacier Peak at home Tuesday in three games, 17-25, 13-25 and 22-25.

Shorewood was scheduled to play Meadowdale at home Thursday before traveling to Monroe Saturday for the Bearcat Invitational Tournament starting at 9 am. The Thunderbirds return to Wesco 3A play Tuesday, October 18 with a 7 pm match at Mountlake Terrace. Junior varsity teams from the two schools play at 5:15 with the “C” teams playing at the same time.

Molly Whipple led the T-Birds against Glacier Peak with six kills, three blocks and two service aces. Marianne Kellogg had 16 assists.

The Shorewood JV and “C” teams both lost to Glacier Peak in two-game-to-one matches. The “C” team had lost a 3-0 home non-league match to Kennedy Catholic of Burien Monday.

The loss to Glacier Peak dropped the JV team’s record to 2-6 in Wesco 3A play (3-7 overall). The “C” team is 0-6, 2-9.

SCC Volleyball’s victory over Bellevue College in pictures on Facebook

The Lady Dolphins defeated Bellevue on Wednesday night in the SCC gym 25-18, 21-25, 25-11, 25-22, 15-10. 


SCC moved into first place in the NWAACC Northern Region by themselves with the victory. SCC is now 12-4 overall, 5-0 in the region.
