Shoreline Christian student named Athlete of the Week in Track & Field

Thursday, April 14, 2016

Each week throughout the school year, the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) recognizes twelve varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.

Riley Scocco, a Senior from Shorewood Christian High School, was nominated by a community member and selected by WIAA staff as one of the Athletes of the Week for achievements in Track and Field.
Scocco was awarded first place ribbons in the hammer and discus at the Lil' Norway Invitational in Poulsbo. She also received fourth in the shot put.

In recognition of their accomplishment, each Athlete of the Week winner receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director, Mike Colbrese, a commemorative WIAA State Athlete of the Week t-shirt, and a certificate. Winners are also posted to the WIAA website.

The Shorewood Track and Field team competed in a Dual Meet on Thursday, 3/31/2016 at Arlington High School stadium against a tough Arlington team, losing both the Men’s and Women’s match-ups. Team scores for the meet are shown below. Full meet results are available here.

SHOREWOOD VS ARLINGTON
Track and Field Dual Meet
Men (0-1 Meet, 2-1 Season)
Arlington 94            51 Shorewood

Women (0-1 Meet, 1-2 Season)
Arlington 102            47 Shorewood

Despite the losses there were many outstanding performances by Shorewood athletes. On the Men’s side Skylar Widman was involved in three wins (100m, 200m, 4x100m relay) and his 200m time was a Personal Record (PR) ranking #10 on the Shorewood All-Time List [per athletic.net].

Men
Chris Diaz (100m hurdles, 4x100 relay), Devan Kirk (400m, 4x400m relay), Aaron Rainboth (800m, 4x400m relay) and Ronnie Gary (Triple Jump, 4x100 relay) each contributed to two victories.

Aaron Rainboth, currently ranked #6 on the Shorewood All-Time List at 800m, missed a PR at that distance by 0.09 seconds.

Ronnie Gary turned in a fantastic Triple Jump in his very first attempt at that event that resulted in a #2 ranking on the Shorewood All-Time List.

Matthew Bangsberg turned in a #9 Shorewood all-time finish in the 110m hurdles.

Finally, Brett-Burgess-Hunt had an outstanding Javelin heave that moved him up to #3 on the Shorewood All-Time List.

Women
Chrislove Brandt (100m, 4x100m relay) and Rachel Hansen (800m, 1600m) led the way with two wins each.

Rachel Hansen improved on her current PR in the 1600m that had her ranked #18 on Shorewood’s All-Time List but her ranking remained at #18.

Rebeca Rodriguez tallied a win in the 200m and Claira Petit leapt to a High Jump victory. Jasmine Pollard and Timony Sherry both achieved a PR in the Shot Put.

Jasmine moved up from #10 to #9 on the Shorewood All-Time List. Timony moved from #17 to #16.

Abby Bickford obtained a PR in the Discus but remained ranked #10 all-time for Shorewood.

Many other Shorewood Men and Women athletes obtained PRs in this meet. Check out these new PRs as well as other Shorewood Track and Field Fun Facts below.
