Shorecrest graduates awarded Theatre Arts scholarships from Driftwood Players

Friday, July 15, 2022

Following Board approval on June 27, 2022, Edmonds Driftwood Players is proud to announce our three scholarship recipients.

Cami Taliaferro-Barber, recipient of the Ralph Eaton Technical Scholarship was awarded $500.

Elizabeth Howlett and Harper Flynt are co-recipients of the Theatre Arts Scholarship and were awarded $250 each.

Elizabeth Howlett
Elizabeth Howlett
is a 2022 graduate of Shorecrest High School with plans to attend USC School of Dramatic Arts with an emphasis on acting for stage and screen, voice, and script analysis.

Winner of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, Elizabeth was editor-in-chief of Shorecrest High School's literary arts magazine and a self-employed piano teacher.

Elizabeth sparkles. Without a doubt, she is one of the most remarkable performers I've worked with in both my academic and professional theatre career --- truly one of those people that is great at everything she leans in to. She embodies skill and talent rivaling any professional I know, and most impressively, grounds those in strong character. -- Andreas Kidd, Drama Instructor and English Department Chair at Shorecrest High School.

Harper Flynt
Harper Flynt
is a 2022 graduate of Shorecrest High School with plans to attend NYU Tisch School of Drama with an emphasis on acting, dance, voice, linguistics, and foreign languages.

Harper is a National Honor Society Member and winner of the Presidential Award for Community Service.

Harper is known among their family and friends as a comedian; as such, they sport a full but guarded smile, eyes that narrow and widen at will, and a sense of humor always ready to laugh and joke as a means of self-defense.
Harper is a powerful, talented dramatic actor as well, with a sense of nuance, subtlety, and intensity (when needed) that frankly astonishes me. -- Jeff Berryman, Actor/Monologue Coach.

Cami Taliaferro-Barber is entering her senior year at Cornish College of the Arts pursuing a degree in Performance Production. A very promising and accomplished individual, this is the fourth scholarship that Edmonds Driftwood Players has awarded Cami.

Cami Taliaferro-Barber

As a director, I am frequently leery of perfectionists as either an Assistant Director or a Designer. It is very important to me that I hold the reigns and can shape the direction of a production. This is the point that sets Cami apart: she can adopt the vision and direction of the Director and make it her own. In doing so, I have seen her blend her artistic concepts and thoughts with other designers [to help] create outstanding vibrant productions that are only achieved through a high degree of coordination. --Brent Stainer

Ballyhoo Theatre Mainstage presents: A Year With Frog and Toad

Friday, July 8, 2022

Photo by Gabriel Corey.featuring Emma Drazkowski as Toad and Julie Hamilton as Frog.

A hit on Broadway, A Year with Frog and Toad was nominated for three Tony Awards – including Best Musical.

Based on Arnold Lobel's well-loved books, and featuring a wonderful score by Robert and Willie Reale, this whimsical show follows two great friends – the cheerful Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons.

Waking from hibernation in the Spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe... all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells a story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons. Wonderful for the whole family!

A Year With Frog and Toad is directed by Shileah Corey and choreographed by Emma Drazkowski and features a cast of seven young adult professional actors.

Performances are July 15 and 16 at 7:00pm, and July 16 and 17 at 2:00pm. Performances are at The Phoenix Theatre, 9673 Firdale Ave. Edmonds, WA.

CANCELLED: Shakespeare in the Park Wednesday, July 13, 2022

Wednesday, July 6, 2022

Join ShoreLake Arts for
Shakespeare's Cymbeline
July 13, 6:30pm
Richmond Beach Library Park

UPDATE: the Shakespeare in the Park performance was cancelled "due to COVID."

Get thee to the park, with picnic, family, friends and blankets in tow to experience this rarely performed romance.

Under the direction of Makaela Milburn, prepare yourself for this Twisted Tale.

Cymbeline is not your average Shakespeare comedy as the story quickly twists to the dark side. A wicked stepmother, a spoiled prince, and a wayward villain match wits with clever Imogen, but even the best of folks hit low points.

What happens after “happily-ever-after” can look a whole lot different than what you dreamed.

Touted as a modern, queer-forward folktale of scrappy resolve, identity exploration, and big-hearted forgiveness.

A wondrous small company of players bring this story to life with music and a joyful pastiche of styles to illuminate this rarely performed production.

FREE. Walk-up.

YOUR support makes this program possible. Thank you!

July 13, Wednesday Wooden O's production of Cymbeline, 6:30-8:30pm
Richmond Beach Community Park, Shoreline

Edmonds Driftwood Players announces 2022-2023 Season 64

Wednesday, June 29, 2022

Edmonds Driftwood Players is excited to announce our upcoming 2022-2023 Season 64, which will include four mainstage productions.

Season subscriptions are on sale now, and are a great way to support local community theatre. Individual tickets go on sale for our upcoming season’s shows in July.

Edmonds Driftwood Players is a volunteer-based, non-profit community theatre with the mission to produce live theatre that entertains, enriches and engages the community. Established in 1958, it is one of the oldest continually operating community theatres in Washington State.

The Mousetrap – September 16-October 2, 2022 (Directed by Adam Othman)

The world’s longest-running play! After a local woman is murdered, the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and the seven strangers grow increasingly suspicious of one another. A police detective, arriving on skis, interrogates the suspects: the newlyweds running the house; a spinster with a curious background; an architect who seems better equipped to be a chef; a retired Army major; a strange little man who claims his car has overturned in a drift; and a jurist who makes like miserable for everyone. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate. This record-breaking murder mystery features a brilliant surprise finish from Dame Agatha Christie, the foremost mystery writer of her time.

Elf, The Musical – November 18-December 18, 2022 (Directed by Craig Schieber)

A title known the world over, Elf the Musical is a must-see holiday musical, based on the cherished 2003 New Line Cinema hit, Elf. Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human until his enormous size and poor toy-making availabilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh realities that his father is on the naughty list and his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner elf. After all, the best way to spread Christmas Cheer is singing loud for all to hear.

The Spitfire Grill – March 17-April 9, 2023 (Directed by Diane Johnston)

Based on the hit 1996 film, The Spitfire Grill is a heartwarming and inspirational musical tale of redemption, perseverance and family. A feisty parolee follows her dreams, based on a page from an old travel book, to a small town in Wisconsin and finds a place for herself working at Hannah’s Spitfire Grill. The Grill is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town, so newcomer Percy convinces Hannah to raffle it off. Entry fees are one hundred dollars and the best essay on why you want the Grill wins. Soon, mail arrives by the wheelbarrow and things really start cookin’ at the Spitfire Grill.

Unnecessary Farce – May 26-June 11, 2023 (Directed by David Alan Morrison)

Two cops. Three crooks. Eight doors. Go. In a cheap motel room, an embezzling mayor is supposed to meet with his female accountant, while in the room next-door, two undercover cops wait to catch the meeting on videotape. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room, who’s being videotaped, who’s taken the money, who’s hired a hitman, and why the accountant keeps taking off her clothes.

A group of 15 talented teens ages 12-19, led by Shakespeare-connoisseur and director Simon Pringle, will present the Shakespearean comedy about love and relationships with four live performances at Juanita Beach Park in Kirkland.

This is routine until he tells them that he’s been offered his dream job of marketing executive in Seattle, which would take him away from all his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. The news doesn’t sit so well.
Thus begins a series of schemes by Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma to keep Nick around, including inviting the lovely, and single, Caitlin O’Hare to dinner… we won’t give the ending away here.

Directed by Christopher Kidder-Mostrom and featuring the acting talents of Jennifer Nielsen (Aida), Naveh Shavit-Lonstein (Nick), Vicki Wicks (Emma), Larry Albert (Frank), Ted W. Fredericks (Nunzio), and Anna Lund-Apffel (Caitlin). As If Theatre Company reopens in Kenmore with funny and poignant comedy THE CAKE

Thursday, January 20, 2022

As If Theatre Company (AITC) is reopening its doors at the Kenmore Community Club with the play The Cake.

Originally scheduled for March 2020, this touching comedy about baking, beliefs, and when to stop following the recipe will finally have its Washington premiere March 3-20, 2022.

The Cake by Bekah Brunstetter (NBC’s This is Us, Starz’s American Gods and founding member of The Kilroys) tells the story of Della in her legendary North Carolina bakery, where life is sweet as she prepares to be a contestant on her favorite television baking competition.

When her best-friend’s daughter comes home from New York City to ask her to make a cake for her upcoming wedding to a woman, Della is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs, as questions of morals, judgment and family swirl around them all.

Directed by Cindy Giese French and stage managed by Stacey Hansen, the cast of four includes Amy Gentry, Stephanie Spohrer, Roz Cornejo, and Patrick Hogan, with a creative team of Sarah Kessler (set design), Molly Hall (costume design), Gwyn Skone (lighting design), and William French (sound design).

“I connected with this play the first time I read it.” says French. “Bekah Brunstetter has crafted a beautiful, funny story that cracks open the door, just a bit, to different people’s perspectives.
"Not only does this play have tremendous heart, it’s also very funny. And after all we’ve been through collectively these past 2 years, we desperately need to be able to laugh together.”

In person Staged reading from Driftwood Players - free but tickets required

Wednesday, January 19, 2022

Driftwood Players presents a Staged Reading from their New Works program, Sunday January 23, 2022 at 7pm at the Wade James Theatre in Edmonds.

Join us for a staged reading of ONE MORE THING by Scott Stolnack, directed by Cindy Giese French.

Sally has finally found the daughter she was forced to give up for adoption twenty-three years ago -- Lil is a tough, smart, troubled young woman, unlucky in love and suspicious of her newly discovered ‘mother.’ Add in an awkward private investigator, and Lil’s clueless biological father. A comedy (maybe) -- with teeth in surprising places.

Although admission to this event is free, please reserve your tickets in advance. Please note COVID protocols.
