Shorecrest 4 - Shorewood 3
Shorecrest overall 2-0 5-2

Kate Ivens prevailed over a tough opponent who hit the ball hard and consistently. Kate was down in the second set but found a way to fight back and finish strong to win her match.

Sophie Ivens and Bella Saunders won their matches easily with great serving and deep groundstrokes.

Shorewood won all of the doubles matches, so the teams were tied at 3-3 and thus the last singles match to go on would determine what team was going to win.

Anna Burke had a lot pressure on her knowing that it was up to her to determine the winner of the match. She started off slow and lost the first set 4-6. In the second set, she started to find her rhythm and was able to relax and hit high quality shots at critical times to take the second set 6-2. The match was a marathon and luckily Anna continued her momentum into the 3rd set and was able to secure a victory for the team with a 3rd set score of 6-1.

Shorecrest is 2-0 in league play and 5-2 overall. The next match is at Edmonds-Woodway on April 9th at 3:15pm.

Shorecrest's Reed Tangeman and Ben Silber are the District 3A Tennis Doubles Champions and remain undefeated in the postseason.

They easily breezed through the first two rounds of the district tournament on the first day taking down teams from Marysville-Pilchuck and Edmonds-Woodway on a warm sunny day.

On the second day of the tournament, they had to prepare for battle in the finals, taking on a strong team from Shorewood.

The momentum shifted back and forth between the two teams and it was unclear who was going to win. Shorecrest got broken on their first two service games to go down 0-3. Luckily they found a way to break back and eventually take the first set 6-4.

Shorewood took control of the second set with high quality groundstroke play and won it 7-5 and carried the positive momentum into the beginning of the third set.

However, Tangeman’s cat-like reflexes at the net and Silber’s consistent and punishing returns helped Shorecrest to win the 3rd set and the match.

They will compete in the State Tournament on May 24th – 25th at Kamiakin High School in Kennewick Washington.

Tennis Sub-District results at Jackson High School

Shorecrest's Ben Silber and Reed Tangeman are the WesCo South Doubles Champions and qualified to play in the district tournament next week at Arlington at 1p. Start date will either be 10/22 or 10/23.

Since the two of them had a first round bye, they had to wait almost 4 hours before playing their first match, so their legs were a bit stiff. Despite waiting so long, they found a way to prevail. As the tournament continued and the competition improved, they picked up their game and continued to win.

In the finals, they were able to defeat the champions from last year in a 3 set battle. Ben hit numerous aces and quality groundstrokes and Reed destroyed his opponents with topspin lobs and high-powered jump serves.

Doubles Results
  • Ben Silber/Reed Tangeman (SC) defeated Eric West/Derk Zambrano (Squalicum) 6-2, 6-1
  • Ben Silber/Reed Tangeman (SC) defeated Ari Webb/Bennett Vana (SW) 6-0, 6-1
  • Ben Silber/Reed Tangeman (SC) defeated Andrew Counter/Steven Lin (SW) 6-4, 2-6, 6-2
