Golden sunset with ferry

Saturday, September 21, 2024

I love living in tall trees but it means that sunsets are just an occasional flash of pink through the branches.

Happy to have Lee Lageschulte's view to remind me what sunsets look like!

Sun and moon and smoke

Good Night, Sun

After a day without sun, the sun made a brief appearance before it was buried in smoke.

Hello Moon!

The crescent moon was able to slice through to make an appearance - or perhaps the smoke is finally starting to dissipate.

Smoke and trees eat the sunset

The smoke was still in the air at sunset, giving photographer Bruce Hill the opportunity to take this series of photos.

Olympic Sunset

Sunday, September 1, 2024

We thought that summer was over and fall had come, but it appears that we get a few more days of summer.

Enjoy it while it's here.

And thanks to Mike Remarcke for the peaceful sky.

Dramatic sunset

Saturday, August 10, 2024

I saw part of this sunset and knew I'd get a photo from Lee. It was dramatic.

The sunset colors change from minute to minute.

My view was a bright red sun in the middle of fiery sky, kind of a combination of these two photos.

I fear that this sunset has some wildfire smoke in it. I saw one notice that was threatening wildfire smoke in Puget Sound. Later I saw one that said we were safe from wildfire smoke for a while.

Be prepared, especially if members of your household have asthma. Have or make an air filter and have extra filters on hand. They sell out quickly when the smoke rolls in.

Sunset with not enough paint on the brush

Sunday, August 4, 2024

This looks exactly like what happens when you drag a paintbrush across a board and you run out of paint halfway through the stroke.

I do like that solid orange right over the mountains.

Not that I'm criticizing Mother Nature, mind you...

Where's the sun?

Tuesday, July 30, 2024

The sun is taking a nap. The rain is busy washing the dust off the trees and leaves and watering the lawn and plants.

I'd rather have a rain forest than a boiling desert but I was born here and have webbed feet.

Sunset - and no smoke

Friday, July 26, 2024

I have been concerned about the spectacular sunsets, remembering that in the past they were due to wildfire smoke in the air.

But the Department of Ecology has just updated their air pollution information, ahead of the worst of the fire season - and they give Puget Sound a clean bill of health.

There are currently six large wildfires in the state, all to the east of us and the wind is blowing the smoke elsewhere. We are not getting smoke from the Oregon fires either.

But stay tuned.

Loud Sunset

Friday, May 24, 2024

Yesterday we published Lee Lageschulte’s “Quiet Sunset” photo from Edmonds.

Today we have a Sunset photo taken from a home above Richmond Beach Wednesday evening. It could be called a “Loud Sunset” as there was nothing quiet about it.

Fiery sunset on a hot day

The fiery glow from Thursday's sunset could be seen all the way to Lake Washington, even with the sun over the horizon.

We have a couple more hot days coming up and probably bright sunsets as well.

Catching a Sunset while Trying to Catch a Fish on the long pier at Log Boom Park.

This is over by the bridge to the public area at Harbour Village Marina.

I’m not sure but this inlet might be some part of the historic Cat Whiskers Creek water from along 61 Ave NE.
