Ben & Jerry’s ice cream available at Shoreline Place this summer

Sunday, July 28, 2024

Ben & Jerry’s super premium ice cream is available this summer at a Shoreline Place pop-up trailer. The trailer is a cute retro VW bus, and it is located near the newly constructed buildings across the parking lot from Town & Country market.

It will be open from 1:00 to 8:00pm most days this summer serving up waffle cones of your favorite Ben & Jerry’s flavors.

The pop-up is locally owned by longtime Shoreline residents and community builders Lance and Moria Blair.

The Blairs are new Ben & Jerry’s franchisees with locations in the Green Lake neighborhood of Seattle and in Gig Harbor.

They can also bring the amazing ice cream to your event or party through their full-service ice cream catering business.

Can we get a shop in Shoreline?
“Shoreline no longer has an ice cream scoop shop, and we would love to fix that by opening a permanent Ben & Jerry’s location,” said Lance Blair.
Do your part to bring a scoop shop to Shoreline.
Eat ice cream!

In order to do that, the corporate franchise office needs to be convinced Shoreline can support a location.

Strong sales at the pop-up this summer would help make the case!

Currently, Cindy is in the running for The Greatest Baker Competition!  You can visit the competition page to vote for Cindy. Vote and share the link for a Shoreline resident to win the competition and get closer to bringing her dream to life!

Donations are not required to vote, but any donations will give Cindy more votes while also benefiting The Andrew McDonough B+ Be Positive Foundation, which helps families fight childhood cancer.

The winner of the competition will get to meet the Cake Boss, Buddy Valastro himself, get the title of Greatest Baker, a feature in the Bake From Scratch Magazine, and $10,000!

Cindy answered the following questions in her contest entry. Read on to learn more about her business and her dreams for the future:

What makes you a great baker?
  • My passion for connecting with people through food and shared stories is genuine and endless. Putting people’s passion onto cake is a dream.
What's your favorite thing to bake?
  • Chiffon cake! Light, spongy, and most importantly, not-too-sweet! I’ve baked my chiffon cake recipe hundreds of times for my family’s birthdays and parties to test it before setting out to start a cake business with the recipe. I love being able to customize it with various Asian ingredients to feature their potential and share with the world. It’s extra special when someone tells me their mom likes the cake. Our Asian moms are so picky with desserts and not-too-sweet is the highest compliment.
How long have you been baking?
  • I’ve known baking was my calling since sophomore year of high school, 10 years ago. I loved baking fundraiser cookies with my mom as a child, but in high school, I decided to try making a new cake recipe for the holiday feast. I looked up the technique for a Bouche de Noel cake and made it. Seeing the smiles on everyone’s face after trying my cake gave me so much joy. Learning the technique was so fun, I started sharing my baking with #sweetsmonday every week for the rest of my school days, and I continue to share it with the world now.
What would you do with the $10,000?
  • I would fund my dream. I started a home bakery to start out safely, financially (grand opening on 12/3/23!) but I want to have a tea party cafe some day. To me, the ultimate experience is connecting with loved ones over the cutest afternoon tea set up with vintage tea cups, petite desserts, scones, and savory snacks on a tea tower. The elegance & beauty of the tea set up makes me so happy, and of course, the food cannot be lacking on flavor or quality to be pretty. I want to make it a reality.

Shop Local and save on Greenhouse Gas Emissions - craft fairs in November and December

Thursday, November 17, 2022

By Sarah Phillips

This is the season of local craft fairs. Local artists, crafters, painters, potters, jewelers, welders are getting their wares ready to sell at markets.

Shopping close to home this year is worth a try! You can find unique items not available elsewhere, you don’t need to pay shipping costs AND shopping for locally sourced goods has the huge added benefit of not generating delivery truck CO2 emissions.

This turns your purchase into a gift for yourself, your neighbors, and future generations of Earth’s inhabitants by limiting greenhouse gas contributions to the atmosphere where they work as a blanket to heat our climate.

Why shop local?

Fun art showcases and market events support local crafters and artists. By sharing their delightfully creative, unique work with us they directly vitalize our economy.

In addition, shopping local can reduce emissions from air freight and the delivery vehicles. Greenhouse gasses GHG are emitted by all cars and trucks that are fueled with fossil fuels. These Greenhouse gasses can stay in the atmosphere for a century. It is as if the GHG are a blanket surrounding the earth. This results in warmer climate, rising seas and can affect our health and our ecosystem

Hot coffee under gray skies

Tuesday, January 19, 2021

Customers lined up around the block on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, to buy their coffee and show their support for Shoreline business Black Coffee Northwest.

The coffee shop, which is Black owned and managed, was the victim of racially motivated vandalism before they opened, when two people who appear to be teenagers, attempted to break the windows and set the building on fire. More recently, someone has scratched swastikas on the small metal signs affixed to their outer wall.

The community has responded and the business is thriving.

Black Coffee Northwest is located at 16743 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133.

Change the World Through Coffee - local couple is close to opening a mobile coffee business on Ballinger but needs a little help

Sunday, January 10, 2021

Heather and Dave Skogerson and sons,Vaughn and Finn, are the family behind SKÖG Haus Coffee, a mobile, specialty coffee business.

It will be housed in a vintage Airstream trailer, which will be parked at The Local 104 on Ballinger in Lake Forest Park in the early morning to early afternoon hours to offer espresso / coffee, tea, smoothies, baked goods and amazing customer service all in a drive through, walk up style business.

They are in the final steps of getting ready to open and need $5,000 to finish. They have set up a kickstarter campaign that allows backers to either donate or pre-pay for their coffee!

We are humbly asking for your support to help us raise enough money to finalize the purchase of our espresso machine, built right here in Seattle, Washington, and to also complete the build out of our trailer which includes electrical and plumbing work necessary for WA State codes, permitting and inspections.
With these things complete, we can be up and running and serving our community even sooner! We have already purchased the trailer, necessary gear and have done so much work over the last year and a half to begin, now all we need is you to join our SKÖG Haus Coffee family!

Here's the kickstarter link: Change the World Through Coffee

Ready for FTD delivery
Story and Photos by Cynthia Sheridan

For Shoreline residents receiving an *FTD floral delivery this holiday season, there’s a good chance that it was arranged by Kayla Bradley, floral manager of Shoreline Safeway on 15th NE and NE 175 in North City.

Since August of this year Kayla has been assembling FTD online orders which are then delivered through FTD (or sometimes through Doordash).

Kayla is also responsible for arrangements sold over the counter in North City Safeway as well as ordering flowers from the wholesale flower market, putting together gift baskets and maintaining the retail flower department.

The delivery process is carried out by Kegan Rivers of Jet City Services, who contracts with FTD to pick up the flower displays at Shoreline Safeway.
