School District and City partner to replace bulkhead at Shoreline Pool

The Shoreline School District and the City of Shoreline partnered to replace the old bulkhead at the Shoreline Pool. The approximately $80,000 project was necessary in order to allow the School District’s swimming and diving teams continued use of the Pool. The replacement took place during the pool's annual maintenance closure. The pool is scheduled to reopen for regular use on Monday, March 9, 2015.

King County installed the old bulkhead in 1971 and it had served the pool well. However the 2014 Shoreline Pool Assessment conducted by ORB Architects recommended a complete rebuild or replacement of the bulkhead.

Both Shorewood and Shorecrest High School diving and swimming teams use the Shoreline Pool for their practices and for competitions. The bulkhead is a movable walkway that enables pool staff to create two distinct swimming areas. For the swim teams they move it to create a dive well that is then separate from the 25 yd. swim lanes.

After high school swim practice, pool staff move the bulkhead back to create a shallow end for swim lessons and a 25 yd pool for lap swimming. Replacement of the bulkhead was essential for the District’s swimming and diving teams continued use of the pool.

The School District and the City continue to look for ways to partner and share resources to better serve the community.

The pool remained open to the public until 3:00pm on Friday, Dec. 19. The pool will then be closed in order to make repairs and allow the water to heat up. All programs for Saturday, Dec. 20 are cancelled.

They anticipate being able to reopen on Sunday, Dec. 21. Call the pool at 206-801-2650 to confirm that regular programming has resumed before attending that day.
