How the Senior Activity Center is funded

For two years, with the help of the National Guard, our Senior Center prepared nutritious meals and delivered them to seniors in the north end, whether they were SC members or not.

By Theresa LaCroix, Executive Director
Shoreline - Lake Forest Park Senior Activity Center

We frequently hear from our membership, that they believe the senior center is financed 100% by either Sound Generations or the City of Shoreline.

Neither is accurate! We are an independent non-profit, with staff raising over $600,000/year, through various means.

The Senior Center packed bags of groceries which were delivered to Seniors during the pandemic.

We are deeply grateful to our cities for the financial assistance they provide each year, accounting for 1/6 of our total costs.

As for Sound Generations, we partner with them to provide us a financial credit line throughout the year (we pay off in December), and we contract with them for back-office services, such as IT, Human Resources, and grant tracking.

They bill us for these services as any business would.

The Annual Community Breakfast scheduled for October 13, 2022 has been postponed but in the meantime you may donate on our webpage at www.shorelinelfpseniorcenter.org

Donations can also be sent to the senior center via credit/debit over phone, by mail or online.

Thank you for your support for the work that we do, the programs and the services provided. Help us to continue bringing quality programs, outstanding instructors, and informative events to our community.

Thursday, September 29, 2022

Register HERE or scan the QR code.

UPDATE: The event has been postponed. Stay tuned for a future announcement.

We invite you to a very special event, our Annual Fundraising Community Breakfast. It will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 7 - 8:30am at Shoreline Community College, 16101 Greenwood Ave N, Shoreline WA 98133 in the PUB Building 9000.

This year we wanted you to not only support The Senior Activity Center but to walk away with new knowledge and skills for your growing businesses.

We have invited Roger Starkweather and Steven Picanza with Marketing That Matters, an acclaimed marketing agency, to share the latest branding and marketing trends that will help move your business into 2023.

Whether you oversee marketing or are a business owner, you’ll find your time well spent. If you are not able to attend please extend this invitation to a team member.

Please know, this is a fundraising event and an “ask” will happen during the program. If you are not able to attend, you can support the Center with a donation HERE.

We have all made it through the last two and half years, possibly the most challenging times of our lives.

We are rebuilding and I’m asking for your help.

Register by September 9

Shoreline/Lake Forest Park Senior Activity Center
18560 1st Ave NE #1, Shoreline WA 98155

Sponsored and led by staff from Laurel Cove Community

Learn about the importance of hydration 365 days a year. Hydration is crucial for our bodies to stay healthy during all seasons. One might think that it’s only important during the Summer but this is not true. Our bodies need hydration especially as we get older.

Hydration can come in a liquid or food form. Learn the different food groups that provide hydration, learn just how much you need to drink and eat, and how often.

There will be a raffle for a hydration basket along with having your hydration level read.

Avoid getting dehydrated

1. Don’t wait till you’re thirsty to drink.
2. Flavor your water.
3. Eat water-rich fruits and vegetables.
4. Stay inside when it gets too hot.
5. Dress for the weather.
6. Be aware of the signs of dehydration

Pre-event registration is mandatory. To register please call us at 206-365-1536 and leave your name and phone number before Friday, September 9th.
