New Exhibit at the Gallery at LFP Town Center April 5 - May 14, 2016

Monday, April 4, 2016

The Gallery at Town Center Presents

Sydney C’ de Baca and Lauren Heerschap
April 5 – May 14, 2016

The Gallery at Town Center is exhibiting a selection of works by artists Sydney C’ de Baca and Lauren Heerschap, opening April 5, 2016.

See these works and the creations of over 90 other local artists during gallery hours: Tuesday – Saturday, Noon to 5pm. Also, please join us at the Gallery for an artist reception on Wednesday, April 20 from 5pm to 7pm.

Sydney C’ de Baca is a watercolor artist who loves to capture all the delightful and quirky colors and shapes of the natural world. She started with vegetable portraits and has moved on to include flowers, fruit, and animals, like the octopus. C’ de Baca began by putting her foodie images on paper products like postcards and art cards, but when she remembered the joy of using my grandmother’s flour sack tea towels, it was a “you got your peanut butter in my chocolate” moment, and her real orientation began.

The artist’s passion for practical kitchen art drives her work: what images, however quirky, bring joy when she walks into her kitchen? That’s what she paints. C’ de Baca also loves the flour sack towel superpower of really drying dishes. It’s this union of beautiful usefulness that centers her work.

Lauren Heerschap lives near Echo Lake in Shoreline, Washington in a house with a perennial garden, a large orange cat named Ramses, and her photographer husband, Henry. Pursuit of the intricate details of a flower and the majesty of mountain tops has led her around the world and into her backyard. Sometimes with a sense of whimsy and color she plays with images on the computer.

Botanical Lace is a series inspired by her mother’s hand crocheted lace, which Lauren scanned and then digitally overlaid on her own photographs of flowers or leaves. To view more of her art, you can visit her website.

The Gallery at Town Center is a program of the Shoreline - Lake Forest Park Arts Council and is located inside the Lake Forest Park Town Center on the lower level, 17171 Bothell Way NE, Lake Forest Park 98155.

Help raise funds for new community Art Display Panels

Tuesday, July 28, 2015

Panels in use for a PTA Reflections art contest

From the Arts Council

The Arts Council has display panels that are used by the schools, PTAs, community groups for all kinds of art shows and exhibits, including the Shoreline Arts Festival, and PTA Reflections shows.
You may have also noticed, especially if you've ever had to move them, that those 15-year-old panels desperately need to be replaced. We believe that our community artists and students should have the best displays for their art, they work hard on it, so let's help them show it off in the best way possible.

We're trying to do just that, and you can help us! We've launched a Power2Give campaign to help raise the money needed to replace the panels. The best part about this campaign is that there’s a 1 to 1 match from ArtsFund. If you give $90, ArtsFund will kick in another $90, and that buys us one whole panel!

We're combining this effort with a few others, including a 4Culture equipment grant, and with these efforts combined; we should be able to upgrade all the panels this year if we reach our goal on Power2Give.

How you can help:

1. Donate. Go to Power2Give and chip in towards the goal.

2. Spread the Word. Please share this information out to the parents in your organization via email, and social media.

3. Keep encouraging art! Having our panels get used so often that they've worn out is a great problem to have, and one of the reasons our community is so fantastic. Keep up the good work!

For more information and details on how your organization can use these displays, as well as other fantastic arts opportunities, visit the Arts Council website or call 206.417.4645.

From the Shoreline - Lake Forest Park Arts Council

The Board of Directors, and staff of the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council would like to thank everyone who made this year’s Gala such a success! The approximately 160 guests at the event really went the extra mile by raising $48,169 to make sure our communities will continue to be enriched by the Arts!

The Make a Difference portion of the evening (often called “Raise the Paddle”) raised an impressive $10,100 for arts education in our schools! This money goes to support the Arts Council’s Artist-in-Schools program which brings working artists into the classroom to lead tactile, hands-on art experiences in our increasingly digital world.

The winners of this year’s HeART award are Keith and Robin McClelland who were recognized for their long-term commitment to supporting and cultivating the arts in our community, and especially for their work on the North City Jazz Walk.

Arts Council Community Spotlight: Michael Callahan, Education Champion

Community Spotlight: Michael Callahan, Education Champion

In Celebration of 25 years of doing good in our community, the Arts Council would like to take some time and highlight some of our fantastic members who are doing great things in our community.

Michael Callahan - Shoreline

Teacher at Cascade K-8, Arts Grant Recipient

Michael on the arts:

I think you're going to get better scientists, engineers, and mathematicians as a result of the kind of divergent thinking that the arts are contributing. Creativity is something we need in this world to solve alot of problems.

How do the arts make an impact?

Art allows some kids who may not be successful in some areas to find success in an area and we build on success, and that’s what education is all about. Art is important to all kids because it supports creative expression, (and) creativity is something we need in this world to solve a lot of problems.

Why should someone support the Arts Council?

I always get the feeling that (the Arts Council is) there to support me. They say “What do you need to get the job done? Explain to us how it’s going to impact the greatest number of kids.” I appreciate that in an organization, because we have limited funds so it’s important that we see the greatest return on investment.”

Join Michael and become a member of the Arts Council. Individual memberships start at just $35, and you’ll not only receive great member perks, you’ll also get to bask in the warm glow that comes with knowing you’ve helped foster creativity in your community. Stand with your neighbors who together, over the last 25 years, have invested over $3 million in arts and arts education right here in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park.

Community Spotlight: Laura Caley, Proud Parent

In Celebration of 25 years of doing good in our community, the Arts Council would like to take some time and highlight some of our fantastic members who are doing great things in our community.

Laura Caley - Lake Forest Park

Shoreline School District Parent and August Arts Camp Nurse

How have you been involved with the Arts Council, and for how long?

I’ve been the camp nurse for August Arts for going on seven years.
(Her son Drew went to August Arts Camp for six years and has been a camp counselor for two now!)

What do you love most about our community?

I like it because it’s small and everyone knows what you’re talking about

How does August Arts Camp make an impact in your life?

For me, the Arts Camp is seeing a lot of young kids coming in not knowing anything about their hidden creative talents and leaving masters.

In one word, describe the Arts Council...

Vital.

Join Laura and become a member of the Arts Council. We’re preserving creative opportunities for our kids, and over the last 25 years, have invested over $3 million in arts and arts education right here in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park. Family memberships start at just $100, and you’ll not only receive great member perks, you’ll also get to bask in the warm glow that comes with knowing you’ve helped foster creativity right where you live.

Arts Council Community Spotlight: Lien Tisdale Titus, Engaged Resident

Tuesday, December 16, 2014

In Celebration of 25 years of doing good in our community, the Arts Council would like to take some time and highlight some of our fantastic members who are doing great things in our community.

Lien (pronounced Lynn) Tisdale Titus - Shoreline

Author of Secret Shoreline Facebook Page

What do you love most about our community?
I love how the community comes together to support each other through local business venues, neighborhood activities, personal reaching out to one another through times of needs and etc.

How do the arts make an impact in your life?
I used to love drawing (pencil) when I was a teenager and somehow lost touch with it upon reaching adulthood. It is so wonderful to see creativity throughout the art community from the very young to the seniors in Shoreline. It makes me smile to watch each festival we have here in Shoreline to have all ages interact with each other to individually bring such beautiful creativity and make it a group effort with wonderful success.

In one word, describe the Arts Council...
Giving

Arts Council Community Spotlight: Elsa Bouman, Working Artist

Saturday, December 13, 2014

Elsa Bouman
In Celebration of 25 years of doing good in our community, the Arts Council would like to take some time and highlight some of our fantastic members who are doing great things in our community.

Elsa Bouman - Lake Forest Park

Artist in Schools, August Arts Camp Teacher, Fiber Artist in Residence

What do you love most about our community?

The community here is just so open and warm. I was at the Commons, and they put up a huge white barricade 60 feet long and 8 high, and I thought “hum.. well thank you for priming the canvas.” I wrote them and said “this should be a big mural.” They liked it and I got everyone (to paint it) from 2-year-olds to 90-year-olds, to teenagers, and some professional artist friends.

How have you been involved with the Arts Council, and for how long?

I started teaching as an Artist in Schools and the summer camp to share with kids. It’s really who I am, because I love it so much and I take it everywhere, it defines who I am and defines our community …I got involved with the Arts Council and everything just bloomed from there.

How do the arts make an impact in your life?
I moved here about 8 years ago. I did some weaving and artwork in the Bay Area, but here there was this community of fiber artists that don’t just spin and weave, they own their own sheep! They love what they do, and their passion combined with the accessibility of the arts made it the best move we’ve ever made.

Why should someone support the Arts Council?
Art is not superfluous or a luxury, it really defines who we are. The joy that it gives kids to feel clay, or dance, or play an instrument, or whatever they do, is critical to defining and distinguishing us and distinguishing them.

In one word, describe the Arts Council...
The Arts Council is “very necessary... Oh! That’s two words!”
