Shoreline Arts Festival finishes under the trees of Lake Forest Park

Monday, June 28, 2021

All photos by David Walton

Shade was the name of the game as both vendors, patrons and performers enjoyed the heat and the shade as temps were >100!

Our friends at Jazz Vespers had a booth, letting people know about their free, online monthly jazz concerts.

Someone found a treasure!

The street was closed next to Pfingst Animal Acres park and the food trucks had a shady spot to set up for business. Customers appreciated the location as well.

If you picked the right time of day, you could have shade and be close to the stage.

ShoreLake knows where to get the best talent!

Next year the Shoreline Arts Festival will be back at Shoreline Community College. Everyone was happy to have a good location this year, after having to cancel last year's event during the pandemic.

The Shoreline Arts Festival is a production of the ShoreLake arts council.

Many tickets remain for Sunday's Arts Festival under the trees of Pfingst Animal Acres Park

Sunday, June 27, 2021

Photos by Cynthia Sheridan

Almost everyone was able to find some shade under the trees at Pfingst Animal Acres Park in Lake Forest Park for the 2021 Shoreline Arts Festival Saturday, June 26, 2021.

It continues Sunday, June 27, 2021 from 10am to 5pm. Because of COVID-19 restrictions tickets are required. They are free and time limited to control the number of people in the park at any one time.

Register for your tickets HERE

The new picnic shelter made a perfect check in location

It was smaller than usual because of the venue. The art shows were held virtually. There was still a nice selection of vendor booths with hand crafted goods. The Irons Brothers construction company was back helping children make bird houses.

Musicians played on the sound stage while the audience sat in the shade.

Musicians played on the Arts Council's portable sound stage. The audience was a little farther away then usual, taking advantage of the trees for shade.

The vendors, under the white canopies, were in partial shade and partial sun. Next year the Shoreline Arts Festival will return to Shoreline Community College. But this year it worked out very well to hold the event in leafy, green Pfingst Animal Acres park.

Call for Artists: 2021 Shoreline Arts Festival - Artist Marketplace

Thursday, January 14, 2021

Call for Artists: 2021 Shoreline Arts Festival - Artist Marketplace

A community tradition; creatively adapted for 2021
Deadline: March 31, 2021

Apply today to become one of the 50+ artists that make up the beating heart of the 31st Annual Shoreline Arts Festival!

We have adapted plans to hold the Arts Festival in 2021, with the Artist Marketplace prominently focused. Details below, prospectus and application on CaFE.org. There is a $20 application fee.

This free community event will be located at the Shoreline Community College on June 26 and 27.

This year’s Marketplace will feature 50+ juried artists. The organizers strive for a well-balanced mix of art types and price points, with emphasis always on quality of craftsmanship.

We've tightened up the layout this year and are proud to announce that activities will be surrounding the Artist Marketplace with Hands-on Art moving north of the marketplace. That puts the main stage and food court to the south, hands-on art to the north, and the marketplace right in the middle (some adjustments may be made for social distancing requirements).

Eligibility

We’re a juried Artists Marketplace. Requirements for artists include:
  1. Work must be handmade. No commercially produced work, kits, or imported goods.
  2. All work must be original and created by or under direction of the artists(s).
  3. Artist(s) must attend the entire Festival.
  4. Items must match type and quality submitted for jurying. No work by non-juried artists.
Image Requirements
  • 3-5 images of representative work
  • *ONE IMAGE MUST BE OF BOOTH SET-UP*
Booth Specifications

Three types of outdoor booth spaces are available:
  1. Inline: 10’ x 10’ uncovered, on asphalt: $175 (open on one side)
  2. Corner: 10' x 10' uncovered, on asphalt: $200 (open on two sides)
  3. Center: 10' x 10' uncovered, on asphalt: $215 (can be opened on three sides)
(all booth types can be doubled)

All booths must withstand Northwest weather conditions, with canopies weighted against wind by at least 30 lbs per leg. Overnight security is provided. In addition to booth fee, a Shoreline business license may be needed.

New this year - an online profile for each company. This will be available prior and post festival to showcase your work, and where visitors can connect with you.

Jurying

The jury panel includes working artists, gallery managers, and/or Festival directors, who determine the balance of categories and select the artists. Category sizes are based in part on average sales from previous years. Jury decisions are confidential.

Advertising

The Festival is advertised through local media, signage, and mailings to Shoreline area residents. Participating artists are featured in the Festival guide and on the Festival website.

Dates and Deadlines
  • Festival Dates: June 26 and 27, 2021
  • Application Deadline: 10:59pm, Wednesday, March 31.
  • Registration Payments Due: May 1, 2021, if accepted

COVID-19 Notes

We understand that Festival Artists have been extremely affected by cancelled events and limited avenues to sell artwork. Our goal is to have a safe, modified, in-person event in 2021 and get back to selling art!

But if we've learned anything in the last year it's that COVID can change even the best of plans. To help mitigate disruptions we've pushed back our application window this year as well as the deadline to register for the event giving artists as much time as possible to read the landscape and make an informed decision before paying a booth fee.

Please feel free to contact our office with any questions or concerns. 206-417-4645 or info@shorelakearts.org

Shoreline Arts Festival 2020 cancelled

Saturday, April 18, 2020

In light of the current stay-at-home orders, and what we perceive to be an unlikely lifting of the ban on large events this summer, the Board and Staff of the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council have decided to cancel the Shoreline Arts Festival for 2020.

The Arts Festival will be back in June 2021 bigger and better than ever, as we find ourselves (hopefully) on the other side of this pandemic and ready to celebrate creativity with our community again. Thank you for your continued support!

Some 2020 Festival activities like Youth Art and Juried Art will move online. If you're interested in registering your artwork for these events, please visit our Festival website for additional information. Updates regarding these activities will be posted soon.

In the meantime, keep an eye out for more virtual events coming soon from the Arts Council! We are committed to the idea that Creativity Can't be Quarantined, and have some new (social distancing approved) creative outlets coming to the community this spring and summer.

The Shoreline Arts Festival is a program of the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council with major support from the City of Shoreline, City of Lake Forest Park, Jack Malek Realtor, Alaska Airlines, and 4Culture.

The Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate creativity and inspire our community through the arts.

The Cabiri troupe performed

In addition to all of these amazing groups and people, we also must give a big thank you to the Shoreline Community College for hosting the festival this year. Shoreline Arts Festival has a sunny day at its new location at the college

Sunday, June 30, 2019

Photos by Steven H. Robinson

The Shoreline Arts Festival had a bright, sunny day at its new location at Shoreline Community College 16101 Greenwood Ave N.

A variety of hands-on art opportunities

The Festival made full use of the spacious facilities at the College with booths of all kinds spread out in a parking lot, a whole row of multicultural rooms, a room just for the Art from the Attic sale, not to mention food trucks and a lot of art activities for children.

The theatre had live dance performances from many cultures.

The Showmobile had a full schedule of performers

The Showmobile was set up and had a full schedule of performances throughout the day.

The festival continues on Sunday, from 10am to 5pm. The festival is free and there is free parking at the college.

For more information, visit the Shoreline-Lake Forest Park Arts Council’s Festival website.

Some of the culture rooms

There was more room for the multinational culture rooms.

Hua Zhang, left, demonstrated Chinese brush stroke art in the Chinese culture room.

Central America was represented with a Panamanian display.

Residents donated art to be sold at the Art from the Attic room. All proceeds go to support the work of the Shoreline Arts Council.

Dennis Ashbrook and David Endicott from the Music4Life organization were ready to accept donations of musical instruments which will be refurbished and given to Shoreline Schools for the use of children whose families cannot afford to rent an instrument. This program has given the opportunity to participate in music programs for many students.

And, of course, there was art for sale in the juried art exhibit.

Joseph Irons helping kids to build birdhouses at
the 2018 Arts Festival

Once again, Shoreline's Design + Build company Irons Brothers will help kids build cedar birdhouses at their booth at the Shoreline Arts Festival this Saturday and Sunday at Shoreline Community College.

2018 Festival

Carpenters from Irons Bros will work with the kids to assemble the free birdhouses. The wood is donated by Dunn Lumber and pre-cut before the event.

Bring the kids to the booth and we'll provide the tools, materials, and a skilled carpenter to help you build your own birdhouse - on us! (While supplies last).

A matched set

In 2017 IronsBC began sponsoring this local Summer Arts event. With help from our entire team and material donations from Dunn Lumber, we have built over 400 birdhouses with kids! This hands-on experience exposes them to manual arts, working side-by-side with an IBC carpenter to build a home for birds.

The Festival is at Shoreline Community College for the first time. 16101 Greenwood Ave N.
