Saturday, March 21, 2020

From Grinders Facebook page

Grinders Hot Sands, 19811 Aurora Ave N, Shoreline, WA 98133 announced the permanent closure of their highly acclaimed restaurant with a farewell letter to their customers.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that we are giving up the good fight and are officially closed for business.
There will be another restaurant opening up in our space later this summer, please support your local independent businesses during these uncertain and tumultuous times we find ourselves in.
It has been an honor and a privilege to feed our community. Thank you for 15 years of serving Shoreline and the greater Seattle area.
Anyone who's done restaurant work knows it isn't always easy. That aside, a few facts stand out:
    • We loved serving our customers good, made from scratch food and tasty beverages.
    • We wish things were different.
    • We will miss you.
Take care of yourselves and your loved ones.
So much love,

Our restaurants are open for take out and to go orders and we have the info

Thursday, March 19, 2020

By Diane Hettrick

Shoreline and Lake Forest Park have wonderful eating establishments with a variety of cuisines. No one wants to see any of them go under during this pandemic.

And no one wants to give up their favorite food!

You don't have to. Everyone does take out and to go orders, even restaurants that you would not normally consider.

Reporter Luanne Brown spent an afternoon calling local restaurants to get information about ordering. She made it halfway through the delivery list, so we know there are more.

Here's a link to what she found:

https://www.shorelineareanews.com/p/dining-is-closed-but-here-are.html

SAVE that link! We (meaning Carl Dinse) are still working on making the page live.

If your favorite is not on the list, feel free to call them to get their information and email it to us: Editor@ShorelineAreaNews.com

There are three delivery services. You make your order through them, pay them, and they bring it to your door.

Burney Brothers BBQ in Third Place Commons is going out of business on March 22

Monday, March 16, 2020

Burney Bros is going out of business Mar 22

A reader tipped us that Burney Brothers BBQ in Third Place Commons was going out of business.

We were at Third Place today, and there was a notice on the counter that Burney Bros. BBQ will be closing, with their last day being March 22. They’ve been in business since 2004, according to the sign.

She commiserated with the owner, who said “We’ve reached the end of the road.”

Not sure what that means, exactly, if it’s to do with rents or lack of customers or what, but it’s a shame and folks might want to drop by in the next couple weeks to get their last BBQ fix.

Reported by MyEdmondsNews.com

A two-alarm fire caused more than $400,000 damage to the Colonial Pantry Restaurant in Edmonds’ Firdale Village Friday morning, March 13, 2020.

A customer called 911 at 7:50am to report a kitchen fire in the restaurant at Firdale Village, a two-story commercial building in the 9600 block of Firdale Way. Customers and employees safely exited the restaurant located on the top floor. One employee was exposed to smoke, and as a precaution, was transported by firefighters to a hospital.

With reports of black smoke and flames from the roof, South County Fire called for a second alarm.

Shoreline Fire crews responded to assist. About 50 firefighters were on scene at the peak of the fire. They had the fire under control within about 30 minutes and kept the fire contained to the restaurant kitchen and attic. A tanning salon on the lower level of the building sustained water damage. All other businesses in the building were cleared to reopen by noon.

Amante Pizza and Pasta closes north Seattle location

Saturday, November 23, 2019

Amante Pizza has closed its north Seattle
location

The restaurant voted Best Pizza in Seattle has been closed. The owner sold his north Seattle location on 12319 Roosevelt Way NE.

The owners posted a message:

Amante Pizza and Pasta
We're sad to announce that Amante Pizza and Pasta on Roosevelt Way was sold on 11/20/19. It was a tough, and very personal, choice by the owners. It's been a pleasure serving pizza in North Seattle these last 15 years.
The Unique Cafe and Wine will take over the space that was leased by Amante. We're excited to announce that they will be adding some of the customer favorites to their menu! You might even see a few familiar faces on staff!
They will retain the phone number of 206-362-6666. The Unique Cafe and Wine will be opening in December 2019. Please see them on Facebook @ The Unique Cafe and Wine for updates about the remodeling schedule, menu updates, and to ask questions.
Thank you so much for your business throughout the years. We couldn't have done this without your love and support!
The (Now) Ex Owners of Amante Pizza and Pasta Roosevelt

They had so many Shoreline customers that they listed themselves as Amante Shoreline!

Amante had seven locations around Puget Sound. The menu is extensive - pizza and pasta, of course, but grinders, calzone, subs, soups and salads, and desserts were part of the fare.

They had the same menu at all locations but were owned individually. If you want to try one of the others, Kirkland, Everett, and Capitol Hill are the closest, so to speak.

Kirkland is at 12206 Juanita Dr NE, Kirkland, WA 98034. Go to Bothell Way and continue to Kenmore, turn right on 68th Ave NE (by Super Supplements) and just keep driving for 6-10 minutes. It is between 122nd Pl and 123rd St on Juanita Drive, next to the Shell station. Phone: (425) 825-0900.

Everett is at 12902 Bothell Everett Hwy, Everett, WA 98208. Bothell / Silver Lake / Everett. Take I-5 north, exit at 128th, go east on SR 96 to Murphy's Corner. Turn left on SR 527 and it's on the left, past Walgreen's.

Seattle: If you have ever been to the Capitol Hill location, the owners sold it and reopened at the north end of the hill at 2357 10th Ave E, Seattle, WA 98102.

Humble Feast Monday - plus recipe for Stuffed Delicata Squash

Sunday, November 3, 2019

Squash
Patty Pan's Humble Feast is a series of community-based, monthly dinner events featuring local ingredients sourced primarily from area farmers who are our friends and neighbors at the markets.

They are held the first Monday of each month, 5:30 to 7:30pm at the Patty Pan in the Briarcrest neighborhood at 15550 27th Ave NE, Shoreline 98155.

Reservations appreciated (and you get a discount if you prepay!)

This month's dinner is Monday November 4, 2019.

The menu: Stuffed squash (omnivore and vegetarian), scalloped potatoes, roasted carrot hummus with homemade crackers, stewed chickpeas with leeks, and apple slices with salted caramel.

Stuffed Delicata Squash (makes 6 servings)

3 medium-size delicate squash
1 teaspoon olive oil, divided
1 tablespoon high heat vegetable oil, such as sunflower or grape seed

½ pound ground beef (optional)
1 onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon chopped fresh herbs, such as thyme, tarragon, or chives
1 teaspoon salt

1 cup cooked rice, white or brown
1 cup lentils, cooked or canned

½ cup chopped parsley
½ cup crumbled queso fresco cheese (optional)

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.

Cut the squash in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds. Brush the halves in olive oil, arrange them face down in a baking dish with half an inch of water in the bottom. Bake until fork tender, about 30 to 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, heat the high-heat vegetable oil in a medium-size skillet. Add the beef, cook until just browned, about 5 minutes, and then add the onion, garlic, herbs, and salt. Cook for 20 to 30 minutes, adding a little bit of water if it starts to stick. For the vegetarian version, simply start with the onion and garlic, and you can use olive oil instead of a high-heat oil.

Mix the cooked meat with the rice, lentils, and parsley. For the vegetarian version, mix the seasoned onion and garlic with the rice, lentils, and parsley. Spoon this mixture over the baked squash halves, pressing it down and rounding the tops. Sprinkle with queso fresco, if desired.

Return the stuffed squash halves to the baking pan and bake until heated through, about 10 minutes.
