Business Continuity and Disaster Survival Strategies for the Small and Mid-Size Business

When a disaster strikes, whether in the form of a natural disaster, a blackout or far more likely, a common server failure, virus attack or software-user error, your ability to respond well to the crisis can make the difference between a bright future and the end of your business.

Data Loss and extended downtime can cripple a small business. In fact, 94% of companies that experience a major loss of data go out of business. That’s why we’re presenting this valuable lunch seminar about how you can plan ahead with disaster preparedness and business continuity processes.

Larry Owens from IntegrIT Network Solutions will share survival precautions and strategies for keeping your business going no matter what the disaster – minor, major, environmental, or technological:
  • Why disaster recovery and business continuity are the key to surviving and avoiding lost business opportunities
  • Best new practices in backup and disaster recovery planning for your business and why your current method may be putting your business at risk
  • Tips for simplifying the costs and complexity of backups and why just backing up your data is not sufficient
  • Methods for maximizing business continuity to protect your critical data and how to keep all user data intact, even after a crash
  • System Migration Planning for Your Business

The Tuesday Quick-Start Shoreline Business Workshop for start-up, existing or potential business owners will be held on July 5th from 12 noon to 1:30 pm at Shoreline City Hall, 17500 Midvale Ave N.

Writing your business intro and Elevator Pitch

This workshop is a hands-on opportunity to learn to introduce yourself in a way that excites and intrigues your audience and makes people want to know more! Whenever you introduce yourself and your company, whether at a networking event, cocktail party, or in the proverbial elevator, you could be speaking to your next customer. Make sure your answer helps them understand what you do, remember you later, and be eager to work with you!

Who should come to this event? Anyone who...
  • gets a little stuck delivering an elevator speech.
  • has an elevator speech that sounds stilted or memorized.
  • just wants to practice and polish an elevator speech.
  • hasn't even started on an elevator speech but knows they need to give a better voice to their small business.

In this workshop first we'll identify what catches someone's attention in an elevator speech and makes them want to hear more. Then we'll pair off in speed rounds to practice our speeches and get instant feedback (bring your business cards!). Come prepared to learn and share, and to network with other great small business owner.

Here's what a previous attendee had to say about the class (thanks, Joe!): "I can only speak for myself, but I got more out of her class than I ever expected. I got stellar results I could never have done on my own, met some great people, and had a great time. It doesn't get any better."

Attendees can expect to... start to introduce themselves to others more confidently and in a way that others will remember and understand. Attendees will also network with other great entrepreneurs.

Rebecca West
Rebecca West is an enthusiastic and passionate entrepreneur and teacher. In early 2010 she saw a need in the business community for a way to polish and practice the 'elevator speech' and get feedback from other entrepreneurs, and started leading this workshop to fill that need.

She draws on her experience as the owner of her interior design company, Rivalee Design, and past experience as a ballroom dance instructor to help students present themselves with more confidence and success.

Whether working with her design clients or helping students identify their target audience, her approach is friendly, practical, and action-oriented.

Christian Jacobsen
Christian Jacobsen started his career in the Silicon Valley computer boom of the 1980's and early 1990's, working for the likes of NASA, Apple, and Sun Microsystems.

Upon relocating to Eastern Europe, Christian was involved with publishing, the peacekeeping forces in the Balkans, and starting an early web application company.

After returning to the USA, Christian honed his marketing skills working for Utilikilts and other visionary Seattle businesses. Now Christian calls himself a Story Teller, and helps entrepreneurs develop engaging marketing messages via his consulting firm, Boomba Chicken
