This was the situation in LFP around 8:30pm Thursday

Power went out for several hundred Seattle City Light customers in Lake Forest Park for several hours Thursday afternoon and evening.

There were three outage areas, which may or may not have been related. At least one was listed as an equipment failure, but another was listed as a tree.

All three were in the area north of Ballinger Way.

Live electrical wires on I-5 stop traffic for hours

Saturday, April 22, 2017

A vehicle slammed into a utility pole at NE 125th and 5th NE
Power to this area will not be restored until Sunday morning
Power Outage Map from Seattle City Light

A violent collision with a utility pole knocked out power to 2500 north Seattle residents, stopped traffic on north and southbound I-5, and caused a rollover accident on I-5.

The incident was reported to City Light around 8:15am Saturday morning.

A driver managed to slam into a utility pole in the vicinity of 5th NE and NE 125th in north Seattle.

When the pole went down, it snapped the electrical wires, which fell across both north and southbound lanes of I-5.

A vehicle on the freeway reportedly got tangled in the wires and flipped over. A second vehicle was damaged. It does not appear that the drivers were badly hurt.

Shoreline Fire and Washington State patrol responded, along with City Light crews.

Motorists were trapped on the freeway, sitting in the middle of live, high voltage power lines as well as an accident scene.

Southbound lanes were cleared after about an hour and northbound cars began crossing the median to get away.

City Light crews were still working as the sun went down
They expect to work all night to restore power

It took a couple of hours to clear the wires and the accident from the northbound lanes. Side streets were backing up as well. About 11am the northbound lanes were opened.

At the peak, 2500 north Seattle customers were without power. Those in the vicinity of the downed pole are not expected to have power until early Sunday morning. Crews have been working all day and are expected to work all night until all repairs have been done and power is restored.

Tree takes out power in Lake Forest Park

9am LFP

My trees kept waking me up last night, doing spring training with cones against my roof. I'm surprised that only one tree came down in the area.

127 customers are currently without power in Lake Forest Park. The outage was reported at 5:30am and crews should be on the scene now. Estimated restoration is 10am.

If your power is out and you are not on the map, call 206-684-3000 or 206-684-7400.

LFP has the distinction of being the only power outage in the entire Seattle City Light service area.

PSE reports no local outages for Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and the vicinity.

Dept of Ecology staff view the downed tree

29 households in Parkwood were still without power at noon Friday from a tree fall in the wind Thanksgiving night. A new, single outage was reported Friday morning in Meridian Park from a different tree.

In Parkwood, one big tree dropped over N 155th, damaging numerous poles and wires.

Crews started the clean up at 8:30am Friday and it might take until mid day Saturday. There was a lot of damage.

N 155th was closed from 1st Ave NE to Meridian Ave N.

Vehicles were rerouted off N 155th onto 1st Ave NE. The Anglican Church is to the right.

Power outage in Ridgecrest

Thursday, November 24, 2016

Power outage 11-24-2016 11:45pm
Ridgecrest

Around 1pm I checked the power outage map - it is that time of year, you know - and there was a very big area without power - 5,000 households - running along I-5 from the Ship Canal to Greenlake. All those half-roasted turkeys!

Things are banging around a bit outside in Shoreline so I just checked again. The previous outage has been fixed, but now 250 households in Ridgecrest are without power. The cause is a tree or tree branches that took out a power line.

Power is not due to be restored until 9:30am Friday morning. Hopefully dinner was done before the power went out, but it's going to be a cold night for a lot of our neighbors.

Here's why the power went out

Friday, August 19, 2016

One wire down

As of 9pm Friday, power had yet to be restored for 424 customers in Shoreline and Lake Forest Park - down from 623 15 minutes before.

According to Seattle City Light, "An insulator on a transmission line broke. When it did, the line dropped onto distribution lines below. The energy surge popped breakers, fuses and switches."

Reader John Boril sent in a report about the cause of today's power outage.

It appears to have started in power lines at the corner of NE 180th and 8th Ave NE.

John says, "The first picture shows what appears to be the problem. You can see that all of the insulators on these poles have wires attached, except for one of them on the pole on the right. If you look down from that insulator, it appears that the wire which had been attached to it is now lying on the wires below, which probably caused a short when it fell onto them.

The downed line started a fire

"Witnesses at the scene told me that sparked a fire on the lawn of the house on the southeast corner of NE 180th and 8th NE."

Shoreline Fire responded, put out the fire, and blocked the road.

Lake Forest Park: here's why the lights were out

Saturday, July 16, 2016

Downed power pole in Lake Forest Park
Photo courtesy City of Lake Forest Park

Here's why you were in the dark last night LFP residents. It's the usual story. Weather, in this case wind, knocks down a tree. The tree falls on the power lines. The weight of the tree pulls down the lines, the lines bring the pole with them and the pole snaps off.

The power goes out, and the tree and/or pole block the road, in this case busy Bothell Way / SR 522.

Even though this was the only power outage in City Light territory, it still was a complex enough job that it took crews all night to repair, replace, and restore power.

Enjoy those lights!

Another power outage - this time in Shoreline

Another major power outage, this time in Shoreline, reportedly when a tree hit a major feeder line. Lights all the way to the end of the line flickered and the areas in red went out completely around 6:30pm on Friday.

One customer reported that the substation attempted to restart the power three times with the power running about half the voltage before it gave up and stayed off.

Midnight

As of midnight, most of the power was back, except for 250 customers in the Parkwood neighborhood and 620 in Lake City. Both of these were attributed to equipment failure and expected to be repaired by 1:30am.

Power restored to Lake Forest Park

Friday, July 15, 2016

Power has been restored to Lake Forest Park

City Light crews worked all night to restore power to two large areas in Lake Forest Park after the wind toppled two trees onto power lines.

The lines pulled utility poles part way or all the way down over Bothell Way/ SR 522 which had to be closed between NE 165th and Ballinger Way.

WSDOT set up detours to route traffic around the site.

City Light originally thought they would have power restored by 1:30am but it took all night to repair the lines and replace the poles.
