Spin Alley Bowling burglarized - $10,000 in damage to steal $2,000

Saturday, July 13, 2024

$10,000 worth of damage to Spin Alley in burglary

Spin Alley Bowling at 1430 NW Richmond Beach Rd, Shoreline WA 98177 in the Richmond Beach neighborhood was burglarized Thursday morning, July 11, 2024 around 5am.

The burglars smashed the front door, then pried a quarter machine and safe off the wall, and were out in around 5 minutes.

The police told us it happened as they were responding to another burglary at Rite Aid a few blocks away. They think it may be the same pair on a spree.
It is evident that they had cased the facility beforehand as the perp went straight to the safe like he knew where it was.

"Please look at the pictures and help capture these suspects before they can damage more businesses in our neighborhoods. Share the post."

Stabbing incident in North City neighborhood

Sunday, June 23, 2024

At approximately 4:25pm Saturday afternoon (06/22/2024), Shoreline police deputies working patrol were dispatched to a stabbing incident.

They responded to a private residence in the 1000 block of NE 182nd St in the North City neighborhood of Shoreline along with Shoreline Fire and Medic One personnel.

Police Deputies from Kenmore also responded to assist.

Deputies located the adult male homeowner suffering from serious stab wounds. He was treated on-scene and immediately transported to Harborview Medical Center for further care.

His injuries were considered potentially life-threatening. KCSO does not have a current update on his medical condition.

Deputies quickly located and established probable cause to arrest a female tenant of the residence for the stabbing (felony assault).

A large police presence was in the area until 3:30 in the morning on Sunday with the streets cordoned off.

Detectives from the KCSO Major Crimes Unit are leading the investigation. This is an open and active investigation with no additional details to release at this time.

Northwest Regional Aviation to conduct emergency response drill June 13, 2024 in Everett

Tuesday, June 11, 2024

Naval Station Everett

Snohomish County. The Northwest Regional Aviation Consortium will be conducting an emergency response exercise in Snohomish County near Naval Station Everett on June 13, 2024. Aircraft from Snohomish, King, Pierce and Spokane County Sheriff’s Departments, along with the Washington State Patrol, U.S. Navy, FBI, Customs Border Patrol Air-Marine, Airlift Northwest, and Life Flight Network, will be coordinating joint response efforts.

Seattle Police, Seattle Fire, Snohomish County Fire Technical Rescue, Snohomish County Department of Emergency Management, Sky Valley Fire, Snohomish and King County Volunteer Search & Rescue Organization, Arlington Municipal Airport, Providence Regional Medical Center, Everett Fire & EMS, Sno911, and WSDOT-Aviation will all be supporting the regional aircraft response.

Overall Scenario: A coordinated terrorist attack at multiple locations is the scenario used for the exercise. Major damage has taken place in a few key government buildings. Supporting scenarios for the exercise include water rescues, high-rise rescues, K-9 building searches, aerial surveys of impacted areas, live video downlink operations, rescue teams, and equipment transport to support structural collapse.

Northwest Regional Aviation has learned from real-world emergency response that knowing the capabilities of partner agencies, and who to call for assistance is critical when large-scale emergencies happen. Having pre-plans in place and the knowledge of how to execute the pre-plans greatly helps in an organized response to a large-scale emergency.

KCSO drug team arrests eight members of Burien narcotics production and distribution ring

Thursday, June 6, 2024

Good boi Quinn!

On 05/30/24, Burien/ Precinct 4 SET Detectives executed warrants at two locations in Burien related to narcotics distribution in and around the city of Burien.

Detectives observed members of this Drug Trafficking Organization (DTO) distribute narcotics to customers residing at a Burien encampment and to customers near Burien City Hall.

This investigation involved several warrants and over 100 hours of surveillance by detectives. After the warrants were served our investigation determined this DTO was manufacturing narcotics at both locations to include pressing fentanyl powder into kilo size bricks.

The warrant resulted in 8 arrests and 7 bookings for crimes including Drug Possession with Intent to Distribute, Manufacturing Narcotics, and Drug Conspiracy.

Two of the individuals arrested were wanted as fugitives from justice out of Oregon for previous drug charges and one had warrants out of Seattle for a previous drug distribution arrest.

At first appearance the judge released one subject and held the rest on bonds ranging between $200-$300K.

Below is a summary of evidence recovered/seized:
  • 22,788 Fentanyl M-30 pills
  • 19 pounds Fentanyl powder
  • 1.36 pounds of Cocaine
  • 263.6 grams Methamphetamine
  • 168 grams Heroin
  • 156.3 grams Crack Cocaine
  • $104,000 cash/drug proceeds seized
  • 1 hydraulic kilo press
  • 8 arrests and 7 booked into KCJ
We commend our detectives for continuing their work interrupting the supply of narcotics in our community.

AXON displays up to date technology for police departments at demo in Lake Forest Park

Monday, May 27, 2024

AXON set up displays behind the police station in Lake Forest Park
By Pam Cross

The Axon Roadshow brought its product display to Lake Forest Park on May 23, 2024. Invited by the Lake Forest Park Police Department, the Axon Roadshow is a series of on-site product demonstrations where education, experimentation, and appreciation converge for public safety agencies.

The Roadshow showcases Axon's latest technology, including body-worn cameras, TASER energy weapons, evidence management systems, and more.

The events provide agencies with hands-on experience to explore how these tools can enhance their operations for their communities. The goal is to empower first responders with practical insights and solutions, creating a space where product specialists and cutting-edge technology come together for improved safety and efficiency.

When I arrived I was met by Sgt. Morris Parrish, Training Sergeant/PIO for the Regional Crisis Response (RCR) who spoke to me about the need to keep up with technological advancements. Unfortunately cost is always an issue.

We talked a bit about how the improvements in technology have made policing much safer for the officers. Lake Forest Park PD would like to upgrade all their TASERs to the TASER 10. The improvements are summarized in this photo of the brochure (that was in my pocket all day). He then introduced me to an Axon representative who talked about the latest in TASER technology.

Handheld Taser for
personal protection
They even offer this small handheld TASER for personal protection.

AXON offers Virtual Reality (VR) Training in place of firing ranges.

In just a few short minutes, users will improve their aim and accuracy.

This method is showing great promise not only because of the fast learning curve, but because it requires a much smaller area to practice in.

Rather than standing 20-45 feet away from a target, the officer in training looks at a screen through the VR headset in just a few feet of space like an office.

The demonstration I saw was in a trailer. and the “trainee” was only a few feet away from the screen but perceived the “subject” to be much farther away.

“Comprehensive training modules help ensure that your officers are well-rounded and as prepared as possible should any routine scenario go awry.
"The most comprehensive VR police training software should provide access to an extensive library of supplemental lessons officers can complete during downtime.”

(Source axon.com)

I wondered why the officer activating a TASER shouts out: TASER! TASER! TASER! before firing.

Is it to alert the other officers? He said yes because the canister in the TASER is very loud and could be mistaken for a gunshot. And when the target falls to the ground after the loud sound, another officer might misinterpret it as a gunshot exchange with an injured target.

The situations are difficult, especially at night. Officers may be shouting out contradictory instructions (get on the ground; show me your hands; put your hands on your head) and flashing red and blue light from the police vehicles add to the confusion.

Their body cameras (which are worn by both LFP and Shoreline Police) are automated to come on when they leave the police station so there is no forgetting to turn on your camera. This is particularly useful when someone they detained misremembers what happened during the interaction with the police officer.

We talked about the difficulty of policing in an environment of constant camera presence and people being detained stating '"I’m afraid of you" (because you are a man), or "I can’t breathe," or '"I need to go to the hospital."

Some people will say anything to delay the ultimate trip to jail, they said. All the while the officers are striving to remain calm to de-escalate the situation and keep everyone safe.

De-escalating techniques coupled with non-lethal choices such as TASERs mean less risk of injury or death to the officers and the members of the public.

I spoke with several representatives of Axon as I walked around and looked at the exhibits, including the state of the art cameras in police cars.

They have a license plate application that catches a plate that it “sees” and runs the plate and produces the report on the laptop screen. He demonstrated it for me on a nearby car (not revealing the report). The camera locked on to a license plate, cleaned up the image, and was ready to continue. This can all occur while the officer is driving.

Of course the police vehicles have camera views from the front and the back, and a view of the back seat as well. This is useful when the person being detained appears to go quiet and may be ill, or is thrashing around and trying to twist a seatbelt around their neck. The officer doesn’t have to take his eyes off the road and twist around to see what is happening behind his back.

This same camera is also linked to all other cameras in their network nationwide. While demonstrating, he pulled up a car camera from a PD in Alabama. It took a second at most and it was as clear as if the car was parked next to us.

Drone demonstration

And Drones. Who doesn’t love them?

Small to large, drones make it easier to track a vehicle than trying to watch it from your car while speeding after it.

They can be used to locate a suspect, or find a lost person in a wooded or congested area.

A small drone can enter a locked building through a window and “see” if the problem has been resolved.

They are quick to deploy so you don’t have to wait for a helicopter to arrive.

They are compact and easy to keep in the trunk.

Car chases are computer controlled as well. The system sees if the chase is too fast for the current traffic. If it is, the chase is stopped because safety is the priority. Parrish said that officers will not chase at 110mph as YouTube would have you think. The reason they chase after people at all is to avoid everybody running away from a police officer.

At the end of the day, I learned a lot more about policing than what I see on YouTube. And that most of the focus is on keeping the everyone safe.

Police and fire call off search of Echo Lake

Sunday, May 26, 2024

Rescue unit searching Echo Lake
After a small kayak was discovered floating upside down in the middle of Echo Lake on Saturday, May 18, 2024 and a caller to 911 reported seeing a man in the kayak two hours earlier, Shoreline Fire rescue swimmers and King County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit searched for five days without recovering a body.

Fire and KCSO Marine Unit do not have another lake search planned at this time.

As for potential outcomes of this incident, the Marine Unit is following their protocols for water recovery.

After conducting their initial searches, they would expect a drowning victim (if present) to surface within weeks in this body of water.

However, KCSO still has no known or suspected Missing Person reports that would match this particular scenario.
We therefore do not know for certain at this time if a drowning has occurred.
We would encourage lakeside residents and visitors to report any unusual objects observed in the lake.

Lynnwood man sentenced for assaulting law enforcement and other charges during Jan. 6 Capitol Breach

Friday, May 24, 2024

A Washington state man was sentenced to prison today after pleading guilty to two felony charges related to his conduct during the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. His actions and the actions of others disrupted a joint session of the U.S. Congress convened to ascertain and count the electoral votes related to the 2020 presidential election.

Tucker Weston, 35, of Lynnwood, Washington
, was sentenced to 24 months in prison, 36 months of supervised release, and ordered to pay $2,000 in restitution by U.S. District Judge Reggie B. Walton. Weston previously pleaded guilty to two felony charges of civil disorder and assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers on July 31, 2023.

According to court documents, Weston traveled from Seattle to Washington, D.C., to attend the “Stop the Steal” rally at the Ellipse and protest the results of the 2020 presidential election.

On the morning of Jan. 6, 2021, Weston attended the rally and, afterward, marched with other protestors toward the U.S. Capitol. Near the Capitol, Weston participated in removing a metal barricade on the Capitol grounds, enabling rioters to advance closer to the building.

A few moments later, Weston shoved officers who were trying to prevent the rioters from progressing any closer to the Capitol building. As Weston shoved an officer, other USCP officers sprayed the crowd with oleoresin capsicum (OC) spray. Around 1:13 p.m., Weston moved to the south side of the West Plaza as MPD officers arrived on the scene to assist USCP in guarding the Capitol building. Upon arrival, MPD used bike racks to reestablish the police line and to create a barrier between the Capitol building and the rioters. Weston approached this police line as another rioter began yelling at the police. That rioter assaulted an MPD officer, and Weston shoved other officers attempting to subdue that rioter.

Tucker Weston, of Lynnwood, sentenced
for assaults during January 6 Insurrection
After assaulting the officer, Weston adopted an aggressive stance with his fist clenched toward the police, protecting their line from the rioters. Weston was sprayed with OC spray but did not heed commands to back away from the line.

Later, Weston made his way to the north side of the Plaza. Once there, Weston joined with a group of rioters in using a bike rack to push against law enforcement.

During his two hours on the West Plaza, one of the most violent areas of the Capitol on January 6th, Weston witnessed other rioters push, punch, and use pepper spray against officers.

At multiple points, Weston yelled at law enforcement to “Come on” and “F— you.” For two hours, Weston yelled and screamed as part of the large and violent mob.

Weston then left this area, moved up the northwest stairs to the Upper West Terrace, and entered the Capitol building through a broken window next to the Senate Wing Door. He remained in the building only briefly before exiting back through the Senate Wing Door and making his way to the North Portico.

Court documents say that law enforcement officers removed Weston and others from the North Portico, and Weston then left the area and traveled to the northeast corner of the Capitol grounds, where he found a group of rioters vandalizing media equipment.

Weston and other rioters then kicked and smashed the equipment. After kicking the equipment, Weston received a bag of stolen media equipment from another rioter and walked away.

The FBI arrested Weston on Oct. 19, 2022, in Lynnwood.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the Department of Justice National Security Division's Counterterrorism Section prosecuted this case. The U.S. Attorney's Offices for the Western District of Washington provided valuable assistance.

This case was investigated by the FBI’s Seattle and Washington Field Offices, which identified Weston as BOLO AFO (Be on the Lookout Assault on Federal Officer) #437 on its seeking information photos. Valuable assistance was provided by the U.S. Capitol Police and the Metropolitan Police Department.

In the 40 months since Jan. 6, 2021, more than 1,424 individuals have been charged in nearly all 50 states for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol, including more than 500 individuals charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement, a felony. The investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with tips can call 1-800-CALL-FBI (800-225-5324) or visit tips.fbi.gov.

Sheriff's office warns of scammers

Thursday, May 23, 2024

The King County Sheriff’s Office will NEVER call you to tell you that you have a warrant.

Recent calls have allegedly come from the Sheriff’s Department saying there is a warrant out for your arrest for not showing up for Jury Duty.

Another tactic is that they say they are a sheriff’s deputy working in association with the Social Security Office, or they are calling about nonpayment of back taxes.

Ultimately, they will ask you to pay a "fine" in the form of gift cards or credit cards and ask you to read off the numbers. In some of these cases, the caller ID has been manipulated to show a valid KCSO phone number.

These are all scams, and you should hang up immediately!

If you fall victim to this scam, please contact the King County Sheriff's Office Communications Center at 206-296-3311.

No developments in search for presumably missing kayaker on Echo Lake

On Saturday morning, May 18, 2024, at 7:45am a lakeside resident noticed a capsized kayak floating near the center of Echo Lake in Shoreline and called 911.

The caller did not see anyone in the water at this time but did recall seeing a person in the same or similar kayak earlier in the morning.

King County Sheriff’s Office deputies (Shoreline PD) and Shoreline FD rescue swimmers responded. A search of the lake was conducted throughout the day by the Fire Department rescue swimmers, KCSO dive unit, with support from Bothell PD.

As of 6:00am Sunday morning, no body has been located or recovered. Deputies contacted many residents around the lake and have not yet identified any missing persons or the owner of the kayak. Regular kayakers did not recognize the boat or the description of the kayaker.

KCSO divers were out again on Sunday with no reported results.

This is an open investigation.

Worth noting is that the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary advises paddleboarders to put a waterproof ID sticker inside their boats. When small craft such as kayaks or canoes are found adrift, typically there is no way of determining whether or not individuals may be in distress. In such situations, having timely access to some basic information can make all the difference.

Echo Lake is relatively shallow but the bottom has a thick layer of loose peat which turns the water into a dense brown cloud if disturbed.

The kayaker has not been identified. The KCSO has been contacted for information.
