O my Luve is like a red, red rose

Sunday, July 28, 2024

A Red, Red Rose

O my Luve is like a red, red rose
   That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve is like the melody
   That’s sweetly played in tune.

So fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
   So deep in luve am I;
And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry.

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
   And the rocks melt wi’ the sun;
I will love thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee weel, my only luve!
   And fare thee weel awhile!
And I will come again, my luve,
Though it were ten thousand mile.

A Hummingbird is a Pretty Bird

Wednesday, July 3, 2024

A hummingbird is a pretty bird.

A hummingbird is bright.

It gathers nectar all day long,

And rests in a torpor night.

Sunrise over the Olympics

Life

Looking back through my life I see a hallway,
A kind of byway with doors to rooms once opened up
Where I lived, worked, and enjoyed my skills.
Now as I pass by I remember
Those rooms I can no longer reenter
And long to relive the good times, the thrills.
But I am instead pulled along, can't stay,
Through the passageway of time day by day.

There are the rooms of loved ones who've passed on,
The room of taking my health for granted
The room of music I can no longer hear,
The room with my favorite pet
No longer purring in my ear.
A building remodeled, unrecognizable.
A home now bulldozed, a loss that was sizable.

But you can't revisit the rooms as before,
For time is not meant to repeat itself,
For what purpose, why?
Work with whatever you do have left,
Your health, your eyesight, and memories.
Show the fullness of a lifetime in prose.
Write a memoir, paint a picture, tell your stories.

Moving inevitably toward the open lighted doorway
At the end of the hall,
You still have goals, you have it all.
You've been forged in all kinds of weather
Whether sun, wind, rain or snow.
Now bring it all together. Call it afterglow?

The lighted doorway awaits your arrival.
A good life was your fate.
Now let others know
And step up to the plate.

Spooky Moon and Halloween Poem

Saturday, October 28, 2023

Hallowe’en Poem

It’s time again to celebrate
With creatures knocking at my gate,
Wanting mostly things to eat,
Their sacks hang nearly to their feet!

Watch out there! Here comes a spook!
Collecting piles of gobbledegook.
Candy, cake, gum and such …
Can he really eat that much?

I hope the creatures won’t want more.
After all, this isn’t a store (!)
The only other thing to show ‘em
Is the annual Hallowe’en poem.

Yours scarily, Witchie Westberg

The Hummingbird

Like thoughts that flit across the mind,
Leaving no lasting trace behind,
The hummingbird darts to and fro,
Comes, vanishes before we know

Poetry: The Bridge

Railroad Bridge photo by Danielle Roth

Poem: The Bridge

Let’s meet on the bridge.
A place to see new views,
As you walk look down
And see the raging river waters
Or a peaceful stream
Either one coming from
Its place of beginnings
To its final destination.

As you walk, look down.
There! You see the water
Bouncing over rocks,
Curling over driftwood,
Reflecting the cloudy sky
Or glistening in some sunlight.
Listen to it talking,
Intimate messages.

Now look to the sides.
Opened up to you
New views, vistas left and right.
Look up and feel the air
Lift and fluff your hair.
The clouds are always changing
The waters come and go
And we’re freshened by the flow.

No matter the weather
We are strong together.
Whether tranquil streams
Or troubled surges,
The bridge is a bond
And a freedom to understand.
Take my hand and
Meet me in the middle.

Robin in snow photo by David Walton

The North wind doth blow,
And we shall have snow,
And what will poor robin do then, poor thing?

He'll sit in a barn,
And keep himself warm,
And hide his head under his wing, poor thing.

Photo:Poem - Christmas Tree

Tuesday, December 20, 2022

Boeing Creek Park photo by Tom Wear

Christmas Tree

See the meaning in the seed
Recipe awaiting life and growth
Its story waiting to be told.

Hear the whisper speaking truth.
See the quiet dance of fingers.
It is so graceful to behold.

Feel the fresh against your touch,
Breathe the scent and fill your lungs,
Calm the noise of daylong stress.

Evergreens mean so much, no wonder
We cherish and remember
There in the dark of winter night.

An evergreen tree is ours to ponder.
It leaves room for hope to grow
All year long. And in December

We love it, light it tenderly
And hang our cherished memories.
As it bathes us in it’s glow.

There is a robin and a worm
Who became the best of friends
They seemed to have so much fun
And they hope it never ends.

Robin always laughed at worm
Cause, he wiggles when they play
It's almost as if my friend worm
Is trying to get away
