Blood Moon over Shoreline

Saturday, December 25, 2010

Chad Coleman is a staff photographer for the Sound Publishing group of local newspapers and online news, most of which have the word "Reporter" in their names. Chad has a photo blog and I think he lives in Shoreline.

In any event, he picked Shoreline as the spot to doze in his car with the moon roof open to take photos of the lunar eclipse on December 20.

Called the Blood Moon, or Hunter's Moon, the lunar eclipse began on the 20th but finished on the 21st, the Winter Solstice.

Chad's photos are spectacular and a view from our own area - if only we had been lounging in the back yard that night to see it.

He published them several places but the best shots are on his blog. Take a look - it's worth your time.

City of Shoreline seeking photos of "Our Shoreline"

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

The City of Shoreline is seeking images of Shoreline.  Now is your chance to justify all that expensive camera equipment by having one or more of your photos selected for publication by the City.

(Your ShorelineAreaNews likes photos, too.  Send them to Tips@ShorelineAreaNews.com.)

As for the City, here's what they have in mind:

Have you ever seen an image and wished you had a camera to capture it? Whether it’s a person, wildlife, landscapes, or unique places, there are scenes that we wished we could’ve captured and shared with others. Here’s your opportunity to photograph images of Shoreline and share them with the community.

We’re looking for images that exemplify “Our Shoreline.” Your “Our Shoreline” photos may fall into one or more categories including:
  • People
  • Animals and Wildlife
  • Nature and Landscapes
  • Places (examples include parks, trails, storefronts, etc.)
Submitted photos may be featured in an issue of Currents (the City’s monthly newsletter,) the Parks and Recreation Guide, the City’s government access TV channel, or the City’s website.

To share an image, go to the photo webpage and use the upload tool. Thank you!

For questions or comments, please contact Tavia Tan, Communications Program, 206-801-2226.

Shorecrest High School’s Photography classes are in need of donated 35mm SLR cameras, working or not. Yes, classes in black and white film photography (with darkroom developing) are still offered, but as technology takes over, fewer and fewer students have access to these cameras.

Tax deduction for your donation is a possibility. Contact teacher Brian Story if you have one of these relics in your attic that you would be willing to pass along to eager students.
Konica
Minolta
Olympus
All cameras pictured are for sale at Amazon.com.  The class welcomes any kind of 35mm SLR camera, not just those pictured.
