Parenting Class at Dale Turner YMCA registration open now

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

The school year is upon us! And while many of us look forward to the school year starting and having a set structure for our kids, this time can also be filled with change and challenges.

No doubt we don't generally have our best parenting moments when we are stressed - but what if you had tools to teach your kids how to resolve their challenges and conflicts? What if those tools helped them grow into responsible, resourceful, respectful individuals. What if the mistakes they make along the way could be used to develop life and critical thinking skills? And what if you could do all that without compromising your dignity or theirs?

These are the skills and tools that Positive Discipline teaches.

Sound intriguing? Come to the Parenting with Positive Discipline class at the Dale Turner YMCA.  If you're curious but not sure, you are welcome to the come to first class at no risk (registration is required but a 100% refund is available if you change your mind by 9/30).

Staying Close While Standing Back—
The Art and Science of Parenting Adolescents
Wednesday, September 28 at 7:00-8:30 pm
One of the biggest balancing acts parents face today is knowing when to step forward to help and guide their children’s lives and when to let their child make independent decisions and choices. How do families work together in a partnership of trust and respect as children and parents encounter new experiences? What are specific ways we can encourage our children to be resilient, accountable, and inter-dependent people in a fast changing world?

The Young and the Restless--The Social Lives of our Children
Wednesday, October 5 at 7:00-8:30 pm
It can be challenging in the moment to know how to help our children communicate effectively and build healthy relationships. These moments can be as simple as not getting invited to a birthday party or being teased at school. This workshop will cover a review of latest research on social dynamics of children and strategies for kids and parents.

Workshops are open to anyone (not faith-based curriculum) and free due to grant funding. For more information email or phone Kay Broweleit at 206-363-3500.
